The hand brake hardly ever needs ajusting. See your hand brake mechanincly spreads your rear brake shose inside the drum. Therefore just replace your rear shoes and make sure there ajusted right and you should have no more problems with that part of your car. PS make sure you put some 3M paste on the contact points on your backing plate to avoid a squeak in the near future.

Ford transit 2000 rear brake adjustment. They are out of balance

Jack up the rear wheels, fit safety jacks,Slask off the hand brake cable, press the foot brake a few times to center the shoes now adjust the shoes through the backing plate till the brakes lock up, then back off till the drums free,do both sides, pull the handbrake on three clicks, adjust the cable till the brakes just start to bind, release the hand brake and make the brake drums turn freely .

How do i replace my hand brake cable on my ford falcon XH ute

wait a bit ....is it rear disc or rear drums on that ute

will assume its under dash hand brake pull lever tyoe

the disc setup may have single cables for each rear
rear disk brake cable is approx $ 150

if your XH it is close to the XE and XF set up drums
a complete one line loop cable outer and inner
with plastic grommets along the back chassis rail ( they break )
so the one inner cable works both rear handbrake shoes

hand brake cable is a shorty

undo the adjustment thread
just below the hand brake cable point up somewhere above the gearbox
(drums )
after new cable fitted
drums are adjusted with the old school way with the handbrake adjuster tool
handbrake cable adjusted

then the handbrake handle when pulled out to hold needs14 plus clicks
comes out a long way for some weird reason
on drums
if cable adjustment is done wrong onrear drums the handbrake cable will come loose in the drum as you drive along

I changed the cables from the parking brake mazda protege 1999 and does not work properly

First make sure the brake shoe linings are ok and the shoe adjusters are free . slacken off the handbrake cable then adjust brake shoes ,then pull handbrake leaver on three clicks tighten cable to feel a slight drag at the wheels, release brake leaver and check wheels are free to turn.

How do I adjust the handbrake in 2000 ford explorer

parking brakes are self adjusting. I suspect you rear brakes are not self adjusting. too much clearance to the brake drum to brake shoes. May need to replace rear brakes and self adjusters. (hardware)

I but a new handbrake cable on my 99 transit and shoes and the handbrake pulls up to far

Ensure parking brake is fully released.
Place transmission in Neutral.
Raise and support vehicle.
Tighten cable equalizer adjusting nut until rear wheel brake drag is felt when spinning rear wheel by hand.
Loosen cable equalizer adjusting nut until rear brakes are fully released.
Spin rear wheels and ensure there is no brake drag. Lower vehicle, and check parking brake operation

How do i adjust the hand break system on focus 1999

hi there, you will need to slacken of the cable adjuster just next to the handbrake lever under its gaiter, jack up the vheicle and remove the rear wheels, remove the rear brake drums, clean and adjust the brake shoes also remove any dust from the drum, if the shoes are worn out they will need replacing, with the drums removed check everything is working freely by getting someone to operate the handbrake lever as you visually inspect the shoes you should see them moving backwards and forwards, if not then strip down and free off, i would advice doing one side at a time so you always have a point of referance to work from. check the wheel cylinder is free and not leaking, if so replace. adjust the brake shoes and refit the drums, once this is done readjust your hanbrake cable so it comes up 3-4 clicks, if this seems a little dawnting your local garage should be able to do you this job for a small fee, hope this helps

Rear brake replacement

try to shorten first the adjusting bar between the shoes. this bar is used to adjust the handbrake.
it is now extended because it was used on thin brake shoe. wth the new thick brake shoe, you have to shorten this bar again.

How do you ajust handbreak cabel on ford focus 1.6 3 door year 2004

The tightness of the handbrake is a function of the adjustmnent of the rear brakes. If the rear brakes are working properly, the handbrake adjustment will be correct. I would change the rear brake pads first, before I tried anything else. Worn pads or nonfunctioning adjusters are the likely culprit.
If you do not want to repalce the rear brakes, you can find the instructions for tightening the handbrake on a website called Focushacks.com. But, if you make the modification (I don't recommend it) you will have to change it back when you get around to changing the rear pads.
