There is a speed/shift sensor you could change, but if you haven't changed the fuel filter in a while, i'd go there first. Sometimes, in fact, often, plugged fuel filters can cause the engine to starve for fuel, and make it seem like the transmission is the problem.

Check to make sure you don't have the TOW/HAUL switch on the end of the tranny stalk turned on

Check your transmission. Look underneath the truck and see if you see moisture around the transmission pan. If you see any indication of that, you may have a huge issue on your hands. Your reverse gear is seized to the Drive Gear. However hopefully it's something like needing a new clutch or a clutch adjustment

4WD! the transfer case is not stuck in neutral is it? Fluid levels are good? Have you noticed a decrease in mileage or power prior to this problem? If no then time to take it in for service it sounds like. Transmission fluid is not consummed, so if it leaked out then you may be able to fill it up and get the leak fixed, if too late then its a rebuild on the tranny.

Check to see if the cable for the transmission is still hooked to the throttle body. If yes it sounds like the governor is bad. It is under a round steel cover on the drivers side of the transmission
