Rear view mirror dims at Startup

I Bought this car used, and I have had problems with all the mirrors... The Rear view mirror dims for night driving when I start up, The outside mirrors tilt down for curb view when backing up... Tried stowing the settings for Driver 1 and 2, (also tried disconnecting the Battery terminal and re-stowing driver preferences). Only the mirrors won't stay programmed, the seat and everything else is OK. Is there a fuse or possible bad component involved with this memory stowage?

The 2002 GMC manual calls this mirror an "Electrochromic Day/Night Rearview Mirror", The manual only shows how to turn it Off and On

But the manual doesn't explain why the dimming feature comes on at startup (even in bright sunshine) and has to be turned off every time...

SOURCE: after disconnecting the battery the passenger side blows hot while the driver sdie blows cold. Does anybody have a answer for this problem?

Unfortunately, you have come across a common problem on these vehicle when the battery power is interrupted. One of your Temperature Control Actuators (or its associated door) has failed. Attached is a diagram of the HVAC unit and the location of the actuators 9With part numbers). Some of these actuators are difficult to get to without disassembling the dash. The Driver's side actuator can be accessed from under the dash.

Why is my heated auto dimming driver side and rear view mirror getting dark when driving

Look in the fuse box for the fuse it will likely have other things on it but nothing to high voltage .
Pull the fuse and see what happens .
Honestly I have never heard of this .
Unless the mirrors lit or damaged somehow from to much heat damaging the coating on the back of the glass making it not a mirror any more .
This sounds like a factory defect

What is the button under rearview mirror for

The button on the bottom of the mirror is called the auto rear view dimming.

This button when turned on will dim the lights of the car behind you if they are bright lights. it is like the older cars where you would flip the lever on the bottom of the mirror if a car behind you had high beam lights on and it was shining in your eyes at night. this will do it automaticly hope this helps good day

Rear view mirror has buttons on it what do they do

2 are for map lights, and the third activates the automatic day/night dimming feature. When automatic dimming is selected, a green light should appear in the lower right-hand side of the mirror.

Mirrors won't Work

the mirrors most likely need to be replaced, rarely do the switches go bad. try replacing your key fob battery. do the doorlocks work from the master switch? and make sure the auto dim mirror is on. the little green light is hard to see sometimes.

Rear view mirror does not change to night view

I have allot of experience with these mirrors, if your just stopped working it lasted longer than most, many never even made it out of factory warranty, the problem is the mirror not any fuse, the cost of the new unit is around $200.
