When your engine is operating normally, the temp on the gauge should be between 190 and 225. The thermostat is set to open at 190 and this controls minimum engine temp. If you sit in traffic the temp will climb to 225 and then the cooling fan will begin to operate to make sure that you don't overheat. You know that water boils at 212 but you have to add 10 degrees for every pound of pressure the rad cap is set to. Also your coolant has antifreeze in it which raises the boiling point even more. A normal overheat condition of your engine would be 300 or more. Does this help?

Moe here, You do not have an overheating problem because you are not getting fluid overflowing from your coolant system. The orange fluid in that reservior is your coolant. You may be used to a green fluid but that has changeed to orange to better deal with all of the different engine components. If you want to flush your system, check in the owners manual for the reccommended service mileage for coolant. Having the cooling system flushed at yearly intervals is a good thing. When you see your gauge go to 221, you are well within the perameters or your system. Does this help?

Is there steam coming from the radiator ? Is the coolant reserve tank low ? Seems to me the cooling fan is not coming on when it should. The cooling fan is controlled by the tempature sending unit. The other problem could be the thermostat needs to be replaced.
I would first check to see if the fan is even coming on . Start the car let it warm up. Then turn on the a/c system . This will activate the fan faster then waiting for the vehicle to completely warm up. So if the fan comes on , then I would change the thermostat. I think the thermostat is sticking in the closed position allowing the engine to run to hot.
