My 1993 dodge w250 with 1st gen 5.9L cummins has problems shifting gears around 40-50mph. Problem seems worse in the cold maine weather

Truck seems to lose power shifting at those speeds and wants to bog down. If I give it more fuel it will eventually shift to the higher gear but takes a while.

remove the inspection cover under the torque converter and check for failed flexi-plate drive. The plate that the torque converter is connected to that is attached to the crank shaft. Check the torque converter control (TCC) clutch solenoid/servo for failure.

This mainly is caused by transmission fluid level changes. Measure it when its at running temperature and in park. Add if necessary (most likely the cause)

Did you try pushing up on the shifter while trying to turn the key? Perhaps your grease is getting cold on the shifting mechanism and it needs new grease or oiling.
