It sounds like the switch is bad. I assume it is pull for "flash to pass" and push for high beams. Check your owner manual.

High beam work on flash but won't stay on full.

Sounds like a problem in the dimmer switch.

try pushing the turn signal stick forward. if that does not work, you may need a new switch.

Headlights wont turn

sounds like the headlight switch is defective and needs replacing, but you need to check to make sure the rod that the switch pushes against if make the full travel and not short as this will not allow the switch to change from low beam to high beam.if the rod is travelling the full length then the switch is no good.you should also hear a click when moving the arm to go from low to high if not then the switch is bad.by holding the lever at a certain position to get the high beams to work this also indicates a switch problem.

I can't get my brights to stay on without having to hold them on . What might be the issue

I find that to energise the high beam momentarily (to warn oncoming motorists) I pull back on the switch lever but to change to full beam on I push down on the lever until it clicks as the low /high beam is the back and forward motion of the light switch

My polo main headlights do not work but my full beam does work

Hi, the main headlights work through a separate fuse from the full beam. If all the fuses are fine the problem might be that the globes has blown on the vehicle. To make 100% sure that it is the globes, see if you get power to the headlights when the main lights are switched on.

Vw golf mark 3 high beam lights

i would say you have a wiring fault, there's not much else in the circuit.... although it does sound like a switch fault, did you put a new or used switch in?? otherwise you may have to take it to an auto-electrician.....

Full beam

Last thing to check is the switch on the steering column (or wherever yours is located)

I've replaced it on one of my cars which would only give me parkers or high beams, no low-beams.

These mechanical type of switches can wear or break, so if all else fails, that's where you need to look next.

Replacing it yourself shouldn't be too hard if you've ripped bits of car interior out before. Get the steering-column shroud off, unscrew and unplug the headlight stalk, and throw in a used or (better yet) new stalk! =-D
