I\'m not familiar with Fiats in particular, but what I am saying below should be rather generic for almost all cars.

If they are saying that it appears to be seized up, I assume that means that the starter doesn\'t crank the engine.

My first question would be this ...... do you know that your battery is still good. A battery can "short" from just setting idle for extended periods like that. Particularly if it were a few years old. When someone tries to jump it, it will show that it\'s charging at a high rate, when all you are doing is heating it up. Be careful. At that point, shorted batteries give off a very explosive hydrogen gas. If you get a spark when connecting the jumper cables, that might be all it takes to set it off. You may want to try a different battery. Make sure it\'s fully charged before putting trying to start the car again.

If the engine still does not crank I would look at two other possibilities. The first is this: Is the starter "locked"? Sometimes when attempting to start a car, the gear teeth on a starter drive instead of meshing, where normally one tooth on the drive fits between two others on the flywheel, the teeth of the two gears actually try to touch tips. This stops the cranking of the starter instantly and gives the impression that the engine is locked. It can happen in cold weather, or if those parts have some wear, or with low cranking voltage.

The second thing is, is the engine actually seized? And the easiest way to check is also one way of checking if the starter is locked as I described above. That would be to put a socket and breaker bar on the bolt head at the end of the crankshaft and try to turn the engine. Now, in doing that make sure you are not just loosening the bolt. If it loosens, just try turning it the other way. If it does move, you\'ll see all the belts and pulleys also turn. That would indicate of course that the engine is not seized. If the starter was locked, you will often hear a "click" as the gear on the starter drive snaps back in place.

I have often seen engines that will seize just from sitting for extended periods. Especially if you live in an area of big temperature changes or high humidity. If that\'s the case, you can usually break it loose by pulling hard on the breaker bar when attempting to turn the engine. Or, if you have a manual transmission, you can try having someone push the car. Turn your key on, put the shift lever in a higher gear, like third. And then as you are being pushed, let out the clutch slowly. The car will either crank over, or the tires will start to slip and the vehicle will stop.

I hope this all helps. If the engine was running right up to the time that it was parked 4 months ago, I would be most inclined to say that you have a bad battery or starter.

Good luck!

Ed

Sounds like an antitheft problem I would start with the antitheft system. Usually when you only have one key all keys have to be programmed together even the original. When you have more than one it is easy to program additional keys.

SOURCE: 1989 vw jetta wont crank. replaced battery still wont start.

Ive got a Jetta 2 CSI and had the same trouble. I then discovered that my coldstart packed up, wich you cant even get at the agents anymore. So If you are in the Benoni area I can fix it for you for 'n reasonable price, and you won't have that trouble any longer. Mine is still starting by just touching the key. 0829484343

SOURCE: car wont start, acts like

Check the battery +12v power connection to the starter is in good order,
Check the ground connection between the battery negative and the engine/starter motor is robust and intact.
If no problem with above, replace the starter motor.

Hi!2012 Chrysler Town and Country front wheel drive. Where is the starter. Front, back, side? Is it hard to get to?

Front right as you look down on the engine. Follow the dip stick pipe down to it's bottom, (yellow). It will be to the right of where the pipe enters the engine block, fitted from left to right, (red). See photo.

I lost the keys, how do i get new ones or how do i unlock my car?

what year????
lost your spare, car came new with 2 keys,
never not have 2 keys, or pay the piper..
no year car stated, so that means nobody can wax accurate.
just made 3 key for my , new jeep yesterday. (proactive)
2 pods and 1 full,
my 04 (sold) GV, only one key can be programmed at a time.
but has no IMMO on car, only the door locks are dead on my spare.
the operators guide (lost that?) tells you how to get the fob programmed all by your self.
the key , any lock smith in earth can cut you a new one.
but house calls or road trips are more money. to cure that.

GV are sold all over the world. 1999 to now.
we cant guess that either and some have Immobilizers..
cant guess that either...

I have 1996 4 runner with 320000 and yesterday on the road just made nose and stop and i cranked it and it turn then stop and i took it to mechanic and left it for them to check and they called me and told...

unlikely that it has locked up because when you tried to start it it turned over
could be a timing belt failure and the bent valves are hitting on the pistons
when suspicious of a reply make the mechanics answer as to how they come up with the reply and then take it somewhere else for a second opinion
if it is a failure , remember that good low mileage engines can be got from engine importers for less than an engine rebuild

Car pulling to one side

I would say that the left hand brake caliper is not releasing and either needs replacing or have a repair kit fitted.

Or the constant velocity joint on the left is seizing up due to either road dirt ingress or a cracked bearing

Brakes
When you apply the brakes the piston inside the caliper is supposed to move out to apply pressure to the brake pads.
When you remove the braking effort it is supposed to relax allowing the pad to release
Yours is not doing that so it will cause the car to pull to one side.

Seized engine-1998 Pathfinder

This is 100% possible - you are going to need a new engine - once an engine siezes there is no way to bring it back without extensive machine work, to help you understand what happened there was a lack of oil somewhere in your engine and basically what happens is those pieces heat up and weld themselves to each other (thermal welding) this usually happens on cars when the oil has been neglected and or on higher mileage cars when the oil pump is not pumping enough oil to the engine - once this happens it is cheaper to buy a new engine than to repair it.

Seized engine???

first thing i would make sure is to remove the belt from the engine and see if it turns then. possible siezed accessory pulley could stop engine. if still doesnt turn over with belt off, maybe remove spark plugs to see if will turn over then
