Bought a battery for chevy venture 2002 but it wouldn't charge so i changed alternator still not charging..don't know what else it could be.
First make sure both battery cables are free of corrosion and ground is secured to chassis and engine then check to see if theres an alt. fuse or bat. fuse blown. Another way to test charging sys w\out an meter is to remove the ground terminal from the bat. with the car running, if the alt. is good car stays running, if all else fails take the alt and bat to a parts store that will test them for free

I don't know if your car has an integrated regulator or not; some house the regulator in a section of the alternator case, others mount it remote from it.
The regulator monitors the load and battery voltag,e primitively but effectively, and controls the current flowing through the field winding of the alternator to ground, changing the magnetic field intensity and consequently the voltage output of the alternator.
The 'hot' end of the field is internally connected to the + output, the 'cold' end is controlled by a transistor inside the regulator which, in turn, is controlled by circuitry monitoring the system voltage.
Some alternators can be tested by sticking a wire through a specified opening, actually shorting the controlled end of the field to ground briefly, while monitoring the voltage across the battery, doing this though for seconds only.
This essentially bypasses a suspected defective regulator; this causes the output voltage to rise instantly to its maximum of ~17 volts if the alternator is OK.
I don't recommend poking a wire at random into an available opening so having a service manual (Haynes-Chilton) would be nearly mandatory.

I don't know how you figured out that your battery was good, but if it drops to 9 volts I highly suspect that it is bad. You need to have it load tested. This will tell if it is bad under load.
Also if it is bad it can cause the alternator not to work even if the alternator is brand new.

have the alt tested there not very good do you have 12 volts going to the big wire on the alt and with key on you should have it to a small wire going to the regulator to turn it on

THERMOSTAT REPLACEMENT
Removal Procedure
1.Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly.
2.Drain the coolant until the coolant level is below the thermostat. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System .
3.Remove the crossover exhaust pipe.
4.Remove the radiator hose from the thermostat housing
5.Remove the thermostat housing bolts and clean any sealer from the bolt threads.
6.Remove the thermostat housing and gasket.
7.Remove the thermostat.
8.Clean the mating surfaces.
Installation Procedure
1.Install the thermostat.
2.Install the thermostat housing and gasket.
3.Install RTV sealer, GM P/N 1052366 or the equivalent, to the thermostat housing bolt threads. .
4.Install he thermostat housing bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
5.Install the radiator hose to the thermostat housing.
6.Install the crossover exhaust pipe
7.Install the air cleaner and duct assembly.
8.Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System .
9.Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Repair as necessary.

SOURCE: new battery and alternator. Battery still won't hold charge
Check all your fuses if you had a system failure it could have blown a fuse. I am not sure on your vehicle where the fuse is in the car or under the hood it could also have a relay. You can check your alternator by checking the voltage at the back of the alternator where the big wire bolts on. You should have 14+ volts at the alternator.
