I have a 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback AWD. The check Engine light is on and is coming back as a cylinder 1 misfire. I've replaced the wires, plugs, coil & even the injector. Compression is still low. The only difference I see is when I'm at a standstill. When there is a load on the car it runs great. Any ideas on how to do a quick fix on this problem?

It does have low compression...25 lbs. Where do you pick up Restore?

When you replaced the plugs , was one of them (cylinder 1 ) dirty and fouled ?
I'm thinking that bad rings in cylinder would give you low compression , and eventualy cause the missfire by fouling up the plug.
There is an inexpensive product that will help with the compression by filling up scratches in the cylinder walls. It is called Restore , and it is one of the only products of its type that I have used , and feel actually works.
Unfortunately , if your rings are broken , or badly worn , nothing in a bottle will fix them.

If your car had a distributor cap and rotor , I would change them too.

If you have low compression in one cylinder it could either be bad rings (which is unlikely) or a burnt valve. Solution is to remove head and have valve replaced.

Is a rear diff from a 1997 subaru legacy wagen with a 2.2l inter changeable with a 1997 subaru legacy outback with a 2.5l ?

the only way you can do this is if you can identify the gear ratios from both cars with the transmission codes found on the strut tower plate.
see this list to check for matches, read it carefully its a ton of info

Can you switch a rear diff from a 1997 subaru legacy wagen with a 2.2l inter changeable with a 1997 subaru legacy outback with a 2.5l ?

the biggest draw back that you will have to check first is the ratio of the diffs you want to change. If they are not the same but will fit then you will destroy the 3rd diff in the transmission from excessive use.

I have a 99 Subaru Legacy (Outback, 2.5L). The check engine light has come on and the codes indicate Cylinder 3 and Cylinder 4 misfires. The light came on about two weeks ago, and occasionally disapears...

hi the cylinder misfire codes are usually pretty specific, if you have replaced the above and it still hasnt fixed the problem try replacing the ignitor or the ecu as thats all it can be left causing the problem

How do I reset the ''check engine'' light on my 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon?

the check engine light comes on if there is a problem with thecomputer system related to the emmision, when this is is repaired the light on can only be turned off with a monitor, code reader. some of these are quite inexpensive.over the web or at a part store.

Grounding issue? Fusible link? 1997 Subaru Legacy won't start

Yea i would check the fusible link. Check all the wires at the alternator and to the starter. Take them loose and clean all connections. Check all body to chassis and engine to chassis/ body grounds. If they look weathered make some and replace or just add some. With the age of it you could have highly corroded wires.

AWD not working

Did you know that there is a fuse under hood on Passenger side that I have seen people put the fuse in the missing spot. Problem is it is only for towing the car. Remove if fuse is present and see if it fixes your problem.
