Brake and caliber looks fine. 1/2 inch of pad still on brake. NO leaks from caliber.

  • Eulogy May 11, 2010

Did the Wheel Speed Sensor look ok on that wheel? Is one side of the pad wearing faster that the other? Inner pad ie?

Sounds like the brake pads may be metal to metal, that could be the noise problem, but until u have the system tested for the trouble code that is setin the ABS modules memory when the light comes on you are guessing, the Dealer is the only one in most cases that has the scan tool to check ABS trouble codes.

Testimonial: "That the last thing I wanted to here but "dealership" but the truth sometimes hurt. Not the brakes though (clanking noise)"

Abs light came on

Sometimes this light is a small illuminated picture of a car losing control. How this system works: Traction control uses wheel speed sensors to detect when one or more of the car's wheels lose grip and traction. When the system registers a loss of traction in one or more of the wheels, a computer will limit power to the wheels that are still in solid contact with the road to prevent a skid. Common reasons for this to happen:
  • ABS is malfunctioning: Traction control and ABS (anti-lock braking system) often share the same control module and internal self-diagnostics system. As a result, sometimes an issue in the ABS can trigger the traction control light. If this is the case, then both the ABS and Traction Control lights will be on.
  • Broken wheel speed sensors: Wheel speed sensors are usually in the wheel bearing assembly, and determine the rate at which each wheel is moving. The sensors relay that information to the traction control module, which determines whether or not power needs to be shifted. Wheel speed sensors can get dirty or damaged and stop working, which prohibits the traction control module from knowing when to enable the system.Traction control module is faulty: The traction control module - which, again, is often shared with the ABS - can malfunction and break altogether, causing the system to stop working. What to expect: A top-rated mobile mechanic will come to your home or office to determine the source and cause of the traction control issue, and will then provide a detailed inspection report that includes the scope and cost of the necessary repairs. How important is this service? It's important to have the traction control issue investigated as soon as possible, as adverse driving conditions can arise at any time. While your car is unlikely to incur further damage from a faulty traction control system, it won't be safe to drive in rain, snow, sleet, or other inclement weather, or even possibly through pools of water on the road. Furthermore, the issue that is causing the traction control light to illuminate could also be impacting the ABS.

What does it mean when raction light stays on and thabs light stays on and the traction wont come on on a 1998 lincoln signature series

Its most likely a bad ABS (anti-lock brake system) speed sensor. ABS pump or modulator assembly. When the light is on, your vehicle does not have the benefit of the ABS and traction control features.

Recently I took my 99 Lincoln Towncar for an oil change at Express now my check trac and abs light comes sometimes when driving could this be the reason?

Depends. You would need to get the abs system checked for trouble codes to proceed. Traction control and ABS share components.

look on the front axles for the ring with teeth look between the teeth for cracks rust forms behind the ring and the rust expands and cracks the ring the crack then sends the wrong speed signal to the brake module

My abs light and traction control light come on at the same time. what does it mean?

you have a problem with the ABS system. the traction control is disabled when the ABS malfunctions. most common problem is a bad speed sensor.

My towncar slows down when the traac active light comes on what is the problem

Keep in mind that Traction Control applies the ABS to the individual wheel when it spins too fast, slowing it down to the speed of the other wheels so that it can gain traction.

2002 Buick Rendezvous Service traction system and ABS lights, grinding when turning ans braking

The ABS and Service Traction system may be due to bad sensors or signal reaching the ABS/Traction Control computer. The grinding may be due to uneven or unsmooth rotors, and/or worn out pads or shoes.

I would recommend that the entire braking system be diagnosed at your local dealer or brake service facility.

ABS light is on all the time as well as Traction Control light. Grinding occurs while driving

with traction control set up cars abs and tranction control sensors are in the wheel bearings when a wheel bearing goes out grinding will come from front wheels and will ruin abs and traction control sensors causing the malfunction. Most likely by your description this will be it.
