A ball park figure would be around $600 with cost of pump and labor with labor being most of cost as placement of pump. But I would say you have the full right to have a second opinon of what is wrong with your car before you pay out that amount. Remember you are the customer and they are the client. And cost difference of thermostat and pump is some bills and pcoket changes as you have shown above.
Sounds like the water pump they have a hole called a weep hole in the bottom of the pump that when it starts to leak the seal is bad you say you are hearing matelic noise you probably waited a little to long but as long as the belt dosn,t brake its not going to cost you any more but you need to get it fixed now and you may want to flush the entire system and have the antifreeze changed it would be a good idiea
not sure what type of alarm you have but a factory fitted immobilisor wouldnt cause this so i assume that its an after market type of alarm which always cause problems ,if its this type of alarm then it should have a key operated switch on the alarm to turn it off.Cannot seem to quite get my head around your cost of 600 dollars to change a water pump on this vehicle but here in spain it would cost about 80euros for the pump 12 euros for 5 litrs of pure antifreeze and depending on the garage i would estimate about 150 euros top because it is only3 hrs work to change the pump and that includes a coffee break.
Your water pump will easily give you 100K plus miles. If your changing our the serpintine belt and you have 100K or more mile I'd go ahead and replace the pump. The cost for it is only $30 or so, plus replacing radiator fluid. As repairs go it is an easy fix.
what is the labor rate where u live, here it is $135.00 US per hour, the water pump is driven off the camshaft timing belt, a new timing blet idler pulley is also a must, so you will need a new timing belt also, it can't be used over
Water pump cost $80.00
Timing belt $20.00
Idler pulley for timing belt $35.00
Coolant $20.00
Labor 4 hours
so here in my area this would be $600.00 job
No the timing belt does not have to be changed but you do have to remove it to get to the water pump so i would recommend that you do so and also replace the tensioner, i can't tell you a price because i don't where you are i am South Carolina and the parts alone for t-belt ,water pump and tensioner are about 150.00$ cost from Ford (list is a bit higher) and about 3.5 to 4.0 hrs labor at a shop
On the 1987 plymouth voyager after market water pumps can cause shredding of the timming belt.
Use of a original maufacturer water pump can sove this problem but does cost more. Worth the cost unless you just like changing timmimg belts.
usually a good time to change it is at about 100,000 miles. change it before it becomes a must or not ride(type of thing). if your water pump is run by your timing belt, then yes you should change the water pump when you do the timing belt. the tension from the new belt will sooner than later kill the bearing in the old water pump and it will cost you twice to fix it versus the one time fix. when you go in to the shop there should be no additional cost to replace the timing belt because it has to come off to replace the water pump.
