ON THE CHEVY 350 IF THE VALVES ARE TO TIGHT AFTER ADJUSTING IT WILL NOT RUN BECAUSE THE VALVES ARE NOT CLOSING. HOPEFULLY YOU DID NOT TIGHTEN THE ROCKERS ALL THE WAY DOWN .IF YOU DID YOU MAY HAVE BENT VALVES OR PUSHRODS. THE PROPER PROCEDURE BEFORE START UP IS TO ADJUST ROCKERS WITH EACH CYL ON COMPRESION STROKE. BACK OFF ROCKER NUT UNTIL YOU FEEL PLAY IN ROCKER TIGHTEN THEN 3/4 TURN. AFTER ENGINE IS RUNNING YOU CAN DO FINAL ADJUSTMENT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. BACK OFF NIT UNTIL YOU HEAR TICKING, THEN TIGHTEN 3/4 TURN IN 1/4 INTERVALS. HOPE THIS HELPS !! BILL

If you adjusted them wrong, maybe the valves aren't closing fully, so no compression. you need to back the adjusters off and start again using a feeler gauge to set the clearance to the right setting. intake an exhaust are usually a different setting, check the 'net or a repair manual, good luck

Back off on all the rocker arms and check to make sure you didn't bend any push rods then make sure you are starting on #1 Cylinder and readjust, when it starts you can finish the adjustment by backing off rocker arm nut till you here it TICK than tightentill TICK IS GONE. I do not have info on the fireing order for primary adjustment but you should be able to find on line complete instructions, Go to ASK.COM and ask for Chev 350 Valve Adjustment their are several to choose from and even YOUTUBE Videos on it.

as long as the oil system was primed and the lifters are full tighten each rocker down until it is snug enough that you can't move it with your fingers.put the valve covers back on and run the motor for a couple minutes. then run the motor with one of the valve covers off at a time. it can be a little messy but this is the best way. as the motor is running loosen each rocker nut until you hear chatter then tighten it back down until it stops plus one quarter turn. this is the best way I know to make sure they are just right.

SOURCE: how to adjust rocker arms on 05 chevy equinox

already ?
the standard procedure for adjusting rocker arms on some cars is to adjust them with the engine running. but this is messy.
loosen the nut until you hear clicking n tapping noise, stop.
now turn the nut Tighter a little at a time until you hear the noise stop, then turn the nut 1/4 turn more and move on to next rocker.

this only applies if you have pushrods.

Most small block chevy's have adjustable rocker arms. Is that not the case with yours?

1998 s10 2.2 rocker arm torque specs

When searching for rocker arm adjustment on 1998 s10 and you come across search result in googles main searches titled " rocker arm adjustment on 1998 chevy s10 2.2- one would usually expect the search result to at least mention the year/vehicle and correct engine size somewhere on the page! But to appear in search as " rocker arm adjustment 1998 s10 2.2" then as soon as you get to page it suddenly only mentions the 4.3, or chevy impala, IS NOT THE SAME AS THE LYING DECEIVING SEARCH RESULT STATED! Results like this should be removed!!

What goes between the rocker arm and cylinder head on an early 350 chevy.Am re assembling an engine that someone else pulled down and they dont know.Is there some sort of saddle?

Nothing on the bottom. Put in the push rod, then the rocker arm on the bolt. There is a thick conical washer that goes on next, then the nut. DO NOT tighten the rocker nut until you have that cylinder on top dead center or you may bend the push rod. Adjust valve lash and re-adjust after engine is running.

Go to a local library and check out a Clinton Manual or similar for GM small blocks. Good Luck

I need the engine valve spec for a 1984 chevy 6.2 diesel. We are adjusting the valves.

VALVE ADJUSTMENTS All gasoline and diesel engines in this guide use hydraulic valve lifters, which require no periodic maintenance or adjustment. However, in the event of cylinder head removal or any operation that requires disturbing or removing the rocker arms, the rocker arms must be adjusted in order to position the pushrods to allow the hydraulic lifters to maintain zero lash. Refer to the valve lash adjustment procedure under Rocker Arms, earlier in this Section.

How do you adjust aftermarket roller rocker arms

well first you need to know the firing order...if it's a small block chevy the firing order is 18436572. You need to write the second four digits underneath the first four digits.

so it looks like this 1843
6572

This will let you know which rocker to adjust...turn the engine over by hand using a rachet on the crank shaft bolt by the harmonic balancer until you get both rockers for number 6 cylinder moving at the same time. Now you may adjust the clearance for both rocker for number 1 cylinder. Then crank the engine over by hand again until number 5 cylinder rockers start to move. Now you can adjust the clearance on number 8 cylinder. You will need to know the manufacturer specs for the valve clearance...continue until all rockers have been adjusted.

Note: The engine should be warm when you make the adjustment.

please rate this.
