Once in a while I go to start my Envoy and turn the key the dash lights come on but the starter does not engage let go of the key and the starter works, also notice a strong smell of gas on start up. This morning while driving to work the service engine soon light came on as well a reduced power light. I pulled off the road and let it sit for about 10 minutes went back and it started right up. No reduced power light but service engine light stayed on. I drove it with no problems rest of the way. Service engine light went off for about 5 miles then came back on. Any ideas at all?

Yes this is electrical. Start by checking the fuses.
SOURCE: envoy is running on highway and suddently turn off & wont start
This could be a bad key. Expensive but if necassary to replace to check on the symptom of the car since no codes are being thrown. I would also say check your Idle Air Control valve and your EGR valve to make sure they are working proplery

need to scan for codes and find problem code some part stores do for free
SOURCE: service engine soon and reduced engine power
disconnect batt. for 30 min. then reconnect,if no problem exist the lights will go away

I found the problem to be the camshaft oil selenoid. Took it out cleaned it and all is well now.
bet it comes right back, starter switch is faulty, sometimes working, sometimes not.
Could happen Ted. I am sure the selenoid is not the whole problem, but as of today it still runs fine. Fingers crossed.
