Heat is definitely not working. a/c doesn't work (get cool) either. please help! getting to 5 degrees tonight!
With the car running pull the blend door actuator it is located just to the right of your blower motor under the dash on the passenger side, it will be secured bu three screws, take it out and you will see a small dowel, with the fan on turn it by hand you will get heat, after you have gotten that done so you can at least be comfortable turn the temp knob fully one way or the other and look for your actuator to turn, if it doesn't check the voltage going to it if it has voltage then your actuator is bad if you don't have voltage then your switch in the dash is bad, I hope this helps

COLD AIR WHEN IDLING COULD BE...
1) Low on coolant - the most common reason for this heater problem. Make sure your coolant level is full.
If the level is low, it could be because the radiator cap is not sealing well or it could also be a cracked overflow container (hot coolant that bleeds out of the engine and drops to the street so you never see the puddle on your driveway).
2) An air-lock in the coolant system - it needs to be burped. Park your car facing-up the steepest hill you can find. Remove the radiator cap a (be careful - best to do when engine is cold) and rev engine to 2000 RPM for 60 seconds - hopefully the air will burp out the cap. Top it off with 50/50 antifreeze.
3) A disconnected or cracked vacuum line. I've heard about this one but never investigated.

good day, you may have some heating core issues, anti freeze leakage, have it checked. hope this helps, have a nice day
SOURCE: 2002, VW Passat, 2.8 Liter, 30V, ATQ No heat,
No heater valve on this car. Heat is controlled with temperature doors that blend the ac and heat to give you the desired temp. The core is probably clogged. It usually does not clog until the coolant wont pass through it but the fins get cruddy and don't transfer heat to you. Try taking the hoses off the core and blast water and air through it then retry the heat.
If you are talking about the belt for the ac compressor, yes the heater should still work.
If the blower is not working, you will need to have the blower motor checked for voltage and ground.
