AC cold air out of my defrost vents

My ac air is blowing cold air out of the defrost instead of the dashboard vents, I was told that a module under the dashboard went out ant it would cost around $750.00 for this part and a additional $300.00 in labor, is it possible that I could have a vacuum leak instead? It does change over to the dashboard vents every once and a while but more often through the defrost vents.

My AC blows cold air out of the derost vents--not the dash vents. Occasionally it will switch, but not often. I also notice some peculiar sounds (whirring, rubbing, like plastic on plastic) when I turn the system from "Off" to "Auto."

U need to check the vacuum from the engine to the ac control head, the air defaults to the defrost when the system looses vacuum from the engine, this is for safety.

I have no clue about your skill level so whether you can do this is hard to say. Also you need a well stocked tool box.

Why does My thermostat Not switch between ac,heat, defrost . there's cold air coming out of vents but not cold enough to be ac. Initially when this started the ac was blowing hot air

If the air flow cannot be controlled from vent/defrost/floor you may have a blend door issue. This is an electric motor that operates a door in the heating system to control airflow. There are usually 3 motors controlling airflow direction, heat and recirculation. The Ac not blowing cold may also be another problem. If the AC is operational, the compressor will be engaged and the Ac low pressure line under the hood will bw cold. If this is all ok then a blend door issue should be suspected

AC is only blowing through the defrost vents in the dashboard?

I think your problem is the head unit that selects where the air comes out ie. Face, floor, defrost, or hi-level face and floor. If that's not working then it will not let you switch location that you want the air to come out.

A vacuum hose that controls the little door that switches where the air blows from is off, its gonna be a real chore the find which one and take the dash out to get to it, but you might get lucky and be able to look underneath the dash from the passenger side and actually see it, good luck
