I have a 97 gmc sierra 4.3 v6. i try to start it but the only thing that happens is the sileniod clicks rapidly but the truck doesn't start. i'll keep turning the ignition and sometimes it will crank but won't start, sometimes it will crank and start but once it turns off, it won't start again. when i try and try to start it, the clicks become less rapid until finally it stops then i'll wait a few minutes and it starts all over again, rapid then slows down then stops. when it wants to start, instrument panel goes on but when it doesn't, panel does not turn on. what could it be? PLEASE HELP!!!
Unbolt and clean your battery terminals if dirty or corroded, preferably replace the bolts (good auto parts stores stock them, and they take some effort to remove and replace them but it's necessary to properly clean the terminals anyway) charge, jump or replace battery ... connect battery terminals and don't over tighten ... start the truck, check charging system gauges confirm charging voltage over 12V 13.8V-14.5V and lights should be bright as normal ... if so, you may be fixed ... if not you have charging system issues, that will be the next post if needed.
