Coolant temp sensor on dash not working stays at cold. heater gets hot. it does not overheat the coolant is full. I tried to bleed air out of system in case there was some and i replaced the coolant temp sensor on the thermastat housing. when plugged into the obd II says its at about 165 degrees not to long after starting car. I was wondering if there is more than one sensor for reading coolant temp like one that is for the gauge only. why would this cause my cooling fans to run all the time.
You did not change the coolant temp sw. you change the ETC which sends a signal to the cpu. It looks just like the temp sw. Look on the driver side head and I believe you will see another one there or look the engine over for another sw just like the one you changed. Not sure what size engine you are asking about.

sounds like you have a bad temperature sensor in dash or the cable has eitehr broken or come off the heater switch under the dash!!

yes you could have a bad ECT or the relay could be bad it sounds more like the relay is heating up and kicking out

there are 2 coolant sensors one for gauge and one for ecm

Maybe your radiator is clogged flush it out.

Sounds like you have a faulty head gasket or maybe a cracked head. This can cause overheating and the check engine light to come on.The code for the o2 sensor is probably caused by coolant getting into the exhaust system and coating the sensor. The coolant fan may work but it cannot remove enough heat from the rad to make the engine cool off.Try some engine coolant stop leak to see if it will help. This maybe only a temperary fix.Let me know if you need more.MOE
