I have a 2007 Jetta Wolfsberg w/ 67500 miles. Recently, the fan runs quite loudly whilw driving & remains on for a little while after I shut the car off. I just replaced the OEM tires with the same Conti's to get another 67k.
I have 3 questions:
1. why does the fan spin now & it didn't before? It's not summer yet & I don't remember it doing it over the last 2 years.
2. Am I going to need any major maintenance soon (timing belt) due to my relatively high mileage for a 2.5 yr old car?
3. If I continue to maintain the car, can I expect it to run reliably for another 100k miles? My current yearly mileage will be more like 15k-20k, not the 30k each for the 1st 2 years.

The fan running on could be a problem fan relay or coolant system sensor
manufacturers recommend a timing belt change at 100,000 klms so you will be safe there for a bit
At the 100,000klms mark replace the belt, crank and cam shafts oil seals , idler pulleys and hydraulic adjuster as the seals will be starting to leak as will the adjuster and oil is not friendly to timing belts
it is a vw so maintaining the car properly may get you another 100,000 klms but the reliability of the car decreases each year
best course of action is regular servicing with periodic fault code reading
oil and filter changes every 10,000klms

turn key off.press the right hand dash button ,turn key on(dont start)hold in for 5secs let go and turn the left hand button to the right ,turn key off and service reminder should have gone....

Check for a switch at lower part of rad. Should see a wire harness & plug on a sensor at bottom of rad. This sensor/switch also operates fan on/off according to coolant temperature. You may need to disconnect battery to get at it safely.

Check the gearbox filter it may be clogged, remove the gearbox sump to locate the filter.
Replace it .

The tiptronic is not the DSG - two separate transmissions. You don't need to service the tiptronic every 40k like you do the DSG.
VW considers the fluid in a Tiptronic tranny as "lifetime" fluid - it doesn't need to be changed.
