Transmission pan how can I fix a leak in my transmission pan or replace it

If its the pan, just replace it. If its the transmission itself that's broken and leaking, not much chance of fixing it, best to replace it.

While the tech may have been honest and trying to help, it could be he was hoping to drum up some (expensive) business. The trans pan leak is the easy one as the pan has to be removed to replace the filter, so replace filter, fluid and pan gasket and this should be fixed. The brake wheel cylinder leak is a different issue altogether and if it really is leaking you should have this fixed asap. which may require rebuilding both rear brakes. Oil leaks from engine can be very small or large, as can power steering leaks. Suggest you may want to have a second opinion unless you have dealt with this tech before and have complete trust in him.

does it have a dip stick ? i had same thing on a chrysler 180 and was the o ring seal for the transmission oil dip stick

my car was leaking very bad transmission fluid do to my transmission pan so i took it off cleand it up. and found that the pan was a bit warpped and added silicone to new gasket and that fixed my problem for the pan. then i also had to replace the inner and outer seals and now my car dont leak transmission fluid anymore :)

Who did this,could be problem with pan over tight.

Normally if oil or transmission fluid mixes with coolant it will turn milky looking like a milkshake. Your leak must be pretty fresh. from your description that it is coming out of the coolant overflow I am thinking you have a radiator transmission cooler leaking into the cooling system.

You will need a new radiator and possibly all the coolant hoses if they have become soft from the transmission fluid.

In most cases if your getting transmission fluid in the radiator it is cause by a bad transmission cooler that is built into the radiator and the fix is to replace the radiator.

The repair will change in price from where the leak is coming from. If the pan is leaking or the rear seal your looking at $100.00 or less. If the front seal is leaking then around $550.00. The most common leak is the pan gasket. Also if the transmission fluid and filter have not been replaced in the last 30,000 miles and the pan is leaking then I suggest doing this also why the pan is off .

TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKS,CAN BE FOUND AROUND PAN GASKET.CHECK PAN GASKET,IF IT LOOKS WET AND YOU SEE FLUID DRIPPING AROUND THE EDGE OF OIL PAN, REPLACE PAN GASKET, WHILE YOU REPLACING PAN GASKET REPLACE TRANSMISSION FILTER WHILE OIL PAN OFF.IF TRANSMISSION OIL PAN NOT LEAKING, CHECK TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER LINES GOING INTO RADIATOR YOU WILL LOOSE A LOT OF FLUID THERE ALSO TORQUE SHAFT SEAL WILL CAUSE HEAVY FLUID LEAK WHILE ENGINE RUNNING CHECK OIL COOLER LINES AND LOOK AT THE TORQUE AREA WHILE ENGINE RUNNING YOU WILL SEE FLUID POURING WHILE ENGINE RUNNING THE OIL PUMP PRESSURE WILL PUSH FLUID OUT AT THE LEAKING AREAS.

I can relate to your issue as I remember being 17 once. lol You need to be a little more clear on where you see the leak at. Jack the vehicle up and put it on jack stands or those little ramps you drive up on. Get under the vehicle and see if the leak appears to be coming from the front where it connects to the engine, the Transmission pan or the rear where the drive shaft comes out to go the the rear wheels. If it's the rear where the drive shaft connects its a pretty easy fix. If it's leaking around the transmission pan it's a pretty easy fix. If it's the Front near the engine it gets a lot harder because you have to drop the transmission to fix it. the other two can be fixed with the transmission installed. I recommend you get the Haynes Repair manual on your vehicle from the Auto Parts store to guide you through any of these repairs. The rear seal can be repaired by jacking the rear of the vehicle up and dropping the drive shaft then removing the old seal and putting in the new seal. The pan seal can be replaced by draining the transmission, removing the pan putting on the new seal and using silicon sealer, you might as well replace the Transmission filter while your at it, and putting the pan back on. Don't tighten those pan bolts too much or they will strip.
