On the back of the brake plate you will see a slotted hole. this is the brake adjuster. take a butter knife or a "brake spoon" and turn the adjuster wheel inside until the brakes release.

how many miles on the car? have you replaced the rear brakes since you bought it? a common problem on the older body style neons was the brake shoes being to hard of a friction material and all you had to do was replace them and problem solved, but you could try taking the brake drums off and getting all the brake dust out of the brakes with the garden hose and using compressed air to dry them or buy a can or two of brake parts cleaner at you local parts store, hope this helps

You need a pullers to get it off.But if your lucky putting a screwdriver between the drum and back-plate and pize it when your hitting with a hammer it may come off.good luck.

We found a leak in one of the rear brakes in our 05 Dodge Neon SXT. while driving, the brakes would respond with one pump, then the next my foot would go to the floor. if i pushed hard as they were on

if you found a leak, was is an air leak or a fluid leak? Since you state the rear brakes were leaking I assume its brake fluid. You must clean away all fluid and have the car securely supported in the air to see were the leak is coming from with someone else pressing on the brake pedal while you watch underneath the area with the problem

2006 Dodge Neon makes a loud noise when I brake.

Neons are known to have brake noise esspecially from the rear. Try driving while holding the parking brake up for a while. Dont do it for to long but just enough to clear all the rust out of the drums. I work at a dealer and that has fixed countless noise complaints. However, if its more of a howling noise it make be one of the rear wheel bearings.
