SOURCE: 1997 dodge dakota v6 engine wont start replaced

turn the key to the on position a see if you can here a buzzing sound around the fuel tank,if you don't hear a sound then. (be very careful while doing this) with the key off take a fuel line coming from the tank loose, make sure its pointed away from you and turn the key to the on position, see if any gas comes out,if not then your fuel pump is probably bad.

SOURCE: 93 Dodge Dakota 5.2 issuing black smoke and

If you are running black smoke that usually means there is oil and gas mixing together too rich. You probably have a seal somewhere that is gone in the engine.

To fix this try to make the gas mixture a little less (you can change the amount of gas going to your truck, but its better someone who knows what they are doing to do this. You can also run a thicker oil, and possibly put in some oil fixer you can buy stuff at canadian tire or something like that which goes in with the oil and it will help seal cracks and holes in the motor.

1997 DODGE DAKOTA WILL SOMETIMES START OR STALL

To much difference between 04 and 97. To use an 04 ECM, you need the trucks complete wiring harness. Then you would have to change the transmission also. You better get in line to sue him also..

I have a 2008 dodge dakota and it has a very rough idle. It runs great at higher rpm and really rough at idle what could it be and how would I diagnose the problem?

Search google for IAC - Idle Air Control motor. Specify Dakota and your engine size ( ex. Dakota 4.7 IAC ). The Dakota shares some engines with Jeep so you can search for Jeep also. Also search for TPS - Throttle Position Switch. These two control the idle. I believe your problem is the IAC has sludge on its piston, preventing it from sliding back and forth and opening up the idle chamber. You can remove the IAC and clean it with carbuerator cleaner, and also clean the cylinder it slides into with a small brush. You can also buy a replacement fairly cheap at auto parts stores, replace it and clean the cylinder it slides into.

My truck will start then slowly die but if i sit in it and keep it where it should idle for little bit it runs fine after that but it happens when my truck sits for a while and some times it just starts...

Idle Air control motor may be going bad, Throttle position sensor maybe, TPS is the cheaper and easier to replace. both are located on the intake manifold. Look under your distributor cap for water or green corrosion on contacts, may just need a tune up.

Rough idle and stalls

sounds like a bad idle air control valve, but if its misfiring thats another ball game, then you may have a bad spark plug or plug wire.when was the last time this car was tuned? if its been a while then you may what to start with a complete tune up, also have the fuel preasure check as this would also cause this problem but if it rides fine and only runs rough at idle then its not the pump.now we are back at a tune up.

Did you properly gap the plugs when you changed them? Improper spark will cause really rough idling at low RPM like that.
