In the winter things in your cars engine thicken up and your battery must be in top condition to turn it over. Batteries work by chemical reaction and that process is slower in the colder weather. Also fuel evaporates more slowly in cold weather making it harder to burn.
These things combined could be your problem. You may try running a thinner oil in the truck for the winter so the engine will turn over easier. Make sure your battery is in top condition at the start of the season. You may also want to switch to a higher octane fuel. Last resort a block heater if you are in a northern area. Hope this helps!
Your Land Rover is no doubt fuel injected.maybe cold start injector. injects gasoline when starting in the cold, carburated vehicles used to have a choke to enrich air/fuel ratio when starting in cold.
SOURCE: Starts fine when cold, after running dies on idle then wont start
Sounds like the fuel filter is dirty and needing to be changed. It's cheap and easy to swap out.
SOURCE: land rover v8 carburetor - starts cold fine but
check the distributor advance unit pull the pipe off and then **** on advance unit to see if the diaphragm moves and stays in ,because the membrane goes then it will not start ,so you advance the distributor and it will start ,but once it gets hot the engine will not start unless you ****** the timing that bit .then when you do that it will not start when cold .

my cruise controll and blinkers will not work, and my rear air bags went down when the car was lifted up for and alignment and i can not get them to air back up.
The ignition system is controlled by the ECM. Check power at fuse box in on right side under dash. Check fuses right side engine compartmentlower dash panel if all OK check power to ECM located right side "A" pillar in alloy box. this unit could be faulty if no spark at coils, assuming they have been connected correctly. may have to get tested for codes at L/R dealer or someone with test tool. Another source of problem may well be flat battery in transponder key. The indicator light on the dash willflash rapidly for 10 seconds if the vehicle has been unlocked with the remote and the drivers door is opened if the battery in remote is getting low
