you most likley have a blown fuse. the fuse for the connector and cig lighter are usually on the same circuit . if you have a owner manuel check and see which fuse is for the obd/cig lighter. if you dont have a manuel then check every fuse in the box and see if you find a blown one. the plug whare the scanner connects is what powers the scanner so if you cant find a blown fuse then you know youre not getting power to the plug for some reason.

what you want to do is take it to nissan and scan it with the consult2 diagnostic system to tell you which of the many things in the system have failed.
the EGR is the most common.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The shift solenoid valve SL is turned ON and OFF by signals from the ECM to control the hydraulic pressure
acting on the lock–up relay valve, which then controls the operation of the lock–up clutch.

 ECM detects open in solenoid SL circuit 4 times when solenoid
SL is not operated (2–trip detection logic)
 ECM detects short in solenoid SL circuit 4 times when solenoid

Fail safe function

Could just be a bad sensor? or maybe a connection issue with cables,corrosion, etc....... Pepboys will hook up test computer and give you a free diagnois code to reasearch problem or you could take the code and give to your mechanic to save on additional costs of testing at shop.

get in to the trunk peel back cloth behind brake light, there will be some plastic wing nuts, remove them and pull brake light lens off of car. Then twist out the lamp holder and remove and replace light.
