Go to the parts store where you bought the cap. Sometimes the code clears on it's own and sometimes you need to have it reset. If this is not an option disconnect the negative battery cable for a minute. Just as a warning, if you disconnect the battery you will have to reprogram most all of your electronics.
there is, unhook the battery let the car set for an hour and re hook it. but i can tell you it will come back on. the reason they told you it was a gas cap is the code told them it was an evap/purge system problem. this is very commonly the gas cap. but in your case it might not be as the light came back on.
It's a leak in your evap system.
Causes:
*Loose or missing fuel cap.
*Evap canister broke, hose cracked or not connected.
*Purge or vent solenoid defective
*Vacuum leak at engine
good luck
if its code p0442 the most common problem is gas cap unless they reset the code for u the vehicle has to cycle- start up a few times or reset after certain amount of miles are driven--but-- this code also can b a cracked, broken,or disconnected vent line,go back to auto zone have them rescan and check for code and have them reset the trouble code if it comes back on than a problem still is present
By "Replace the gas cap", do you mean put it back on, or buy another one? If you fuel these trucks with the engine running, or don't tighten the gas cap, the light will come on. It will also come on when the seal in your gas cap goes bad. I have had to replace the gas cap on my jeep and dodge already. It fixed the problem both times.
are you fueling car with key "on"? That will cause light to come on.
Disconnect battery for 1 hour and this will reset "keep alive memory" and clear codes from memory. Drive car for 10 miles so computer can relearn engine parameters. It may run rough during this period.
