It's not true that there is only one type of power steering fluid. Some ps fluid is recommended for some cars and some say they are specific for other cars. I need the name of the factory recommended power steering fluid.

All the power steering fluids available in the parts stores work on all systems of all the manufacturer's, they are a universal fluid. If you want the GM power steering fluid go to GM dealer, there is only one fluid used so just ask for Power steering fluid.
Check the steering fluid maybe you need to add some and also check the hose make sure there are no leaks and if the noise still there after you add a steering fluid visit a mechanic and check the hydraulic of the steering wheel.
The transmission in your 1998 Cadillac Catera is a "sealed unit". Under normal use, it does not require service to the transmission filter/fliud.
If you insist on checking/changing the fluid, there is a fill plug at the side of the transmission that will help you determine the fill level of the transmission.
You warm the transmission to operating temp, and remove that plug with the engine running, then on top of the transmission on the driver's side of the vehicle, there is a red plastic cap you remove. Insert a funnel, and slowly add fluid, watching until it begins to dribble out of the check hole under the car. Reinsert the check plug, then cap the transmission again.
Recommended fluid type is Dexron-VI.
The power steering fluids sold by all auto parts stores are universal and will work in any car make, if u want the manufacturer specific fluid then you will need to get it from the dealer parts dept.
seen this post on a diff site There is no dipstick to check the transmission fluid on a 1998 Cadillac
Catera. It can be checked by opening the fill plug on the side of the
transmission.
