I had the same problem wit a 97 Sunfire GT. It was the light control switch on the steering whell column. i went to Advanced Auto for the part. I think it was around $35. The lights have worked perfect in all modes every since. hope this helps.
Your high beam indicator comes on when a bulb is burnt out. Checking your bulbs is your first step. Your car takes 9007 bulbs. Then if that does not correct things check for corroded wires or a bad switch. Then check the daytime relay. Last, the microprocessor is in the display.
You may have a broken or corroded wire, pull open the wire loom that protects the main lighting wire harness behind and around the drivers side headlight area under the hood. There are splices that are known to trap water in them and short out or turn green. Let me know if you need more clarification?
