Purchased a set of front fog lights for my 2005 volvo s40. Installed the lights and replaced switch checked the fuse. Rear fog light works front does not. Replaced the switch again to make sure I did not have a bad switch. Any clues?

Check for power to the switch but as this vehicle was sold without front fogs then check with the local vehicle inspection garage thats its ok to fit them as it may not be on the paperwork for the vehicle and it could fail the test ,well this is spain home of the paperwork wannabies

Could you take out a bulb and with a testlight/probe check that you do in fact have power to that circuit .Also check that they are the correct bulb for that application I have seen people put indicator bulbs in where therse supposed to be a double filament bulb.Does the base of the bulbs lead contacts line up with the two steel terminals inside the plug?

Yes switch is the problem. Volvo claim they sell very few switches, probably because people bought new cars instead. Problem can be associated with failed ignition coils (2 of) but one does not cause the other but very confusing. Engine fails intermittently or conks out.
Reset battery earth connection on chassis bad design here. Clean off paint and thread also bolt coating. Even better, use brass bolt but do not overtighten. Volvo will try to get you to replace alternator which is not necessary.
Failing battery will light up all the warning lights but will not isolate the battery so if it shorts car will die and not run on alternator. If this happens disconnect battery until you get to garage.
Now you know you can buy an old S40 with confidence great car and very cheap for what you get.

Pull switch out and test continuity with a multimeter. The light may work, but the power out may not.

And there is a relay involved as well

Did you test all the parts befor fitting ? Faulty parts would need to be replaced , have you wired the lights independently ? If so it shouldn't affect the CCM.

Well wire a relay into the circuit, it is easy, the relay circuit is on every relay, they are cheap, you will need a 30 amp relay.
