If the clutch pedal feels normal in terms of resistance then chances are your clutch plate is worn and need replacing, have someone look at the clutch level on the gearbox to check it is engaging when u operate the clutch pedal.

SOURCE: i got a 94' z71 at. its got a 4l60e transmission

Your going to have to get some codes from the ECM first to see if it's electrical and not machanical. MOst of the time it's going to be electrical I hope since you sill have your forward gears.
Here's a way for you to get the codes and hope this helps pin point your transmisson problem.
GM domestic vehicles made before 1995, the diagnostic connector is located under the dash panel by the driver side. To get the Check Engine codes to flash in your dash panel, use a jumper wire or a paper clip and connect terminals A and B of the diagnostic connector. Turn your ignition key on with engine off and the codes should start to blink. All codes should start with code 12 which is one long flash followed by 2 short flashes. This code 12 means the diagnostic system is normal and will repeat itself continuously if there are no trouble codes. Otherwise, code 12 will flash 3 times before flashing the fault codes.

Most of the codes can be erased or cleared by disconnecting the battery negative terminal for 1 minute and reconnect. Just make sure to check your service manual in case you have electronic equipment such as radio or clock that needs reprogramming in which battery disconnection is not recommended. Road test the truck after repair to confirm if the problem is fixed.

Codes from  72 to 85 and 90, 91 97, 99 are related to transmission problems.
Good luck and hope this helps If your have a 72 coade then it's a VSS signal error. That's your speed sensor at the left rear side of your transmission at the output shaft. Easy fix, just un-clip the wire connection and un bolt the sensor.
Auto zone should have the part or any transmission shop and have them dubble check to make sure it's that sensoe, there are two of them.

SOURCE: Can't shift into reverse ( manual transmission )

I have the same problem on my 2005 cts. The shifter fork has two rubber bushings that attach at the transmission that break or give way. I assume they did this for a softer feel and to avoid vibration but it leads to the selector not engaging well when you go the extreme direction of reverse on the shifter as there is too much deflection. I replaced the bushings with washers as spacers and it seems to work as a "McGyver" fix. I do intend to get the parts needed from Cadillac to restore it to factory standards. Hopefully they have the parts. To fix the problem you have to go under the car. To get good access you have to disconnect the exhaust and the driveshaft. I did it without this and just tormented my poor hands but I wasn't willing to do all the other work while in my driveway. You simply take the clip holding the fork shaft onto the transmission selector end off and slide the small shaft out. I also took off the shifter side of the fork to study the thing a bit better. That takes a 13mm and a small allen wrench, 4.5 or 3/16, can't remember. Then replace the bushings or do as I did and stack some washers so as to get rid of the slack between the inside of the fork and the gear selector on the transmission. Assemble and try. If you have as good dexterity and tenacity at your fingertips as I do, you'll curse the day you attempted doing this without taking out all the other stuff. If you don't, take out all the other stuff to make room for your hands. The space is very confined. Good luck.

SOURCE: I can't shift into reverse. All other 5 gears are

My VW is not shifting into reverse at all; I think a certain person was driving and mistakenly pressed the gear shifter down for all gears--reverse is the only gear you press the shifter down first in. Doesn't grind, 1 2 3 and 4 work but no reverse no reverse lights.
I've read several complicated (can't see scenario's) posts on screens and linkage and a cable fixed one guys problem but still no solutions.

SOURCE: manual trans in a 97

This possibly an issue with a damaged gear synchro or your linkage needs adjusting. This is a video that explains in detail how to adjust your shift linkage and it should cover your model and year of vw. If the problem still persists then you could be looking at the bad gear and will need to have the transmission serviced.

Ford focus 2000 gear shifter went loose with bad odor. Still shifts into reverse. Manual. Help

It sounds like there may be an issue with the gear shifter mechanism in your 2000 Ford Focus. The loose shifter and bad odor could indicate that something has broken or worn out inside the mechanism, and it might not be fully disengaging the gears. The fact that it still shifts into reverse suggests that the problem is not with the transmission itself but with the gear shifter assembly.
To fix the issue, the gear shifter mechanism will likely need to be disassembled and inspected for wear or damage. Any broken or worn parts will need to be replaced. It could be caused by the bushings or the gear shift cable that connects the gear shift lever to the transmission. These parts could be dried out, loose or broke. It is also possible that the linkage inside the gear shifter assembly is corroded, or there's internal issue with the shifter mechanism.
Given that it is a manual transmission , it is important that the vehicle is properly repaired as soon as possible to avoid further damage to the transmission or other components. It is best to take it to a professional mechanic to have it inspected and repaired.

1996 Ford Ranger xlt manual transmission can"t shift into 3rd and 4th gear

If it grinds when trying to shift, it is the synchronizers. Rebuild. If it pops out of gear. there is a plastic part at the top of the transmission that wears out. It fits around the ball of the shifter. It is two pieces. You'll have to remove the floor plate and pull it up to access the bolts to remove the shifter and replace those plastic pieces.

Ford festiva transmission

You have a manual transmission. The synchronizers are bad. Probably a couple of bad bearings also. Get a manual and buy the parts. Save yourself atleast a $1000 labor from a garage.

I have a 1965 Mustang Fastback, I am restoring it through my school. Quite a few years back one of the students "rebuilt" the transmission, I beleive it is stock. We are close to having the car...

I am assuming that you have a 4-speed manual transmission?
If the shifter mechanism had a lockout built into it, then you will have to repair it or figure out some way to disable it before you will be able to shift the transmission into reverse gear.
Another option would be to replace the shifter mechanism entirely.

2001 Ford E250 transmission has no reverse gear, when placed in reverse, the vehicle drives forward. Is the transmission faulty, or can it be a lesser problem?

I would check the shifter and the linkage. Even though the shifter lever is moving, that doesn't mean it's moving the linkage on the transmission.

Shifter stick kept popping out of gear. eventually ended up with just reverse. the car runs and starts however, it sounds like a grinding noise when i try put it into 1st or 2nd. the noise is coming from...

It sounds like the hyd. clutch is not working. If the clutch won't release then you can't get the transmission in a gear while it is running, without that grinding noise.
