Where is the EVC purge valve on a 2003 elantra

Hi, the car has 134000 miles on it and runs smooth...got code PO456. Well I, looked up the code ( Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected Very Small ). With that infor and possible cause's, I changed the gas cap also, eye-balled the gas tank charcoal filter canister but didn't change filter...But noticed one metal hose was rusted badly and quite loose so I, changed that out. Then cleared the code and for some stupid reason my 2003 hyundai elantra has a large ( driving cycle ) before the computer is ready for state inspection ! I drove over 130 miles only too get a new code PO 441. Please excuse my frustration. Should I change the charcoal filter and purge valve ? I am not a mechanic just a "jack of many trades and master of none" Also, I've got lots of tools but no vac gages. Thank your help in advance. keith

SOURCE: emissions test comes up not ready - can't pass inspection

Under the hood, there is a fuse block. I believe it is on the driver's side of your vehicle. Open that box, and pull the "ECU" fuse. Leave the fuse out for at least 5 minutes. Put the fuse back in, start the car, and let it idle for at least another 5 minutes. Do not drive the car, touch the gas, or even look at the gas pedal for these 5 minutes, as the ECU is remapping itself. This will properly reset the ecu and clear the codes. After this you may drive the car.

SOURCE: CIL on, code P0441, using more gas, hard to fill up

In the first place, P0441 = Evap. Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow. The 'CANISTER CLOSE VALVE' you mention is normally OPEN until the ECU (Engine Control Module) decides to check the fuel system for any leakage - IT closes the valve and then applies a vacuum to the system and monitors it for leakage. This valve (CCV), if sticking CLOSED, only MIGHT set P0441. The most suspect component is the Purge Control Solenoid Valve (located on/near the engine) and is also controlled by the ECU. If this valve is malfunctioning, it can absolutely cause this P0441 to SET!... There is also another component which can CAUSE this code to SET... it's the Differential Pressure Sensor (DPS) or Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor (FTPS) connected to the Evaporative Emissions System. It is this component which monitors 'vacuum' pressure on the system to determine if there is any leakage.. its signal is also used by the ECU to monitor 'purge' of the charcoal canister under normal driving conditions. There is yet another component which can cause the ECU to set P0441.. and that is a restriction in the 'purge' circuit.. clogged charcoal canister, air filter, or a kink in the Evap hose(s).

SOURCE: 2000 elantra po455 code evap emission control

Large leak?... Fuel Cap not tight or the wrong one is installed. Also, the charcoal canister close valve may be stuck 'open' AND/OR the purge control solenoid valve may be stuck 'closed.'

SOURCE: Having the same problem the other guy described.

First of all, these codes are what are called "Powertrain Trouble Codes' (that's what the "P" means P=Powertrain). TCM Request (Transmission Control Module = TCM). The request was to turn on the 'Check Engine" light.
P0720 - output speed sensor circuit malfunction
P0715 - Input speed sensor (turbin speed) circuit malfunction
P0442 - Evaporative Emission System Leak (Small Leak)
P0455 - Evaporative Emission System Leak (Large Leak)
Check fuel filler cap problems - for Evap Emiss leaks
Replace the pulse generators & have the trans fluid replaced/flushed.
The Main Catalyst System Efficiency Bank 1 Is P0420, not P0442
If you had P0420 code, the catalytic converter is shot... and that's an expensive component.

SOURCE: i have a 2002 hyundai accent, i could not pump gas

First GUESS.. replace the charcoal canister after you have cleaned out the hoses between it and the canister. Then blow air between the purge control solenoid valve and the fuel tank.

Not sure about the Elantra but if I think that might be the car that I had a problem with before that has a double tube in the tank filler spout it designed to let the gas tank burp and they will come loose and fall and bind and not let the gas flow properly

PO456 Code Replaced gas cap and bad filler neck (rusted). Purge valve has loose components rattling when I tap on it.

It is impossible to answer your question without knowing the YEAR, MAKE, and MODEL of your vehicle.
That being said, on almost all vehicles, the purge valve is an easily-replaceable part. If you are not able to find the EXACT purge valve for your vehicle, find something that will fit in its place (they all work the same).

What does the code po456 mean?

Usually this P0456 code is caused by an incorrect or faulty gas cap. Filling the fuel tank with the engine running could conceivable cause this code as well or if the cap wasn't properly tightened. Any of the following could also be the cause:

* A small leak in any of the EVAP hoses or fuel tank hoses
* A small leak in the purge valve or vent valve
* The EVAP Canister may be leaking

Gas Cap
Holes or cuts in fuel vapor hoses
Loose hoses
Evap Component failures

And on and on

Have a smoke machine put on the system and repaired
