A wire has broken or come loose at the multifunction switch connector. Remove the upper and lower column shrouds to gain access to the connector and repair.

check for worn wires under the dash shorting on the steering shaft
replace the ignition switch --not the key barrel and tumbler

When steering wheel in the 12 0'clock position the dash lights go out in two places on the steering wheel. Come back on at 1 and 11 o'clock?

No year make and model. What dash lights? Is it dash or steering wheel lights? Never seen this. The only light I know of that comes on in the dash, because of the steering wheel is the airbag light. Bad clock spring.

DASHBOARD LIGHT WONT WORK 63 MERCURY MONTEREY BREEZWAY

You probably need to pull the instrument cluster out and replace the illumination bulbs from the backside of the instrument cluster. All the bulbs back there are likely all the same ( your illumination and warning bulbs), so change them all. Happy motoring!
How to get the cluster out? Look for screws to remove. Get any bezel or trim plates out of the way. Check for screws again, cluster should pull out a few inches, then reach behind and unclip the speedo cable from back of cluster, then pull off the electrical plug from back of cluster. Now should be able to remove the cluster. Hopefully your steering wheel will allow cluster to be removed, but if not, take off the steering wheel's center nut, the pull off the steering wheel-sometimes a steering wheel puller is required-an inexpensive tool available at parts store.

Of course, before doing all this, check for a blown instrument panel fuse-something like instr. lmps, or instr pnl designation.
Good luck.

Replace bad steering pump, *twice" seems to be steering hard to the left Checked front end and wheel bearings - no problem there

this problem is most likely the sterering gear box has a leaking fluid pressure assist valve

Hi i have a 2002 trailblazer and i was on my way to work one day and my check engin light came on and then the reduce engin light came then the car locked up and wouldnt move the key got stuck and...

i had a similar issue today, but it was after an accident. I hit a dog, a very large dog. Anyway, the battery ran out from my having my hazards on, and then the key got stuck in the vehicle. No power, no turning over etc. The tow truck guy boosted the battery, and then pushed in (with a long screwdriver) the switch that is under the steering wheel. He wiggled the sterering wheel a bit as well, and voila, out came the key. this is a feature that GM put in their vehicles. Very common problem, and once power to vehicle it spits out the key.

Clutch/starter interlock switch no longer engages. how much of the dash do I need to pull to access? Procedure?

the solenoid that pulls the interlock pin back is located on the top of the sterering column, drop the column down to access it, are u sure the brake lights work? that is what energizes the solenoid.

New starter but car wont start

funny...you have just told me what is wrong with it!!!
check power in, power out at the ignition switch...likely it has failed. switch is on the top of the steering column under the dash and is sometimes easier to reach if you disconnect the column from the dash and permit the sterering wheel to rest on the seat.
