Check engine light came on in my car last night, code read P2716... Some websites say transmission shift solenoid others say bad PCM... Please help? The car also has 111,000 miles on it so no warranty! How much will this problem cost me?

There is a Bulletin on this concern, and it is a warrantable condition for 8 years or 80,000 miles so you are still covered by the factory warranty.
The problem is a logic issue in the PCM. The correction is a new PCM with updated software.

This is very common on Matrix/Corollas and is repairable by way of
replacement PCM to correct invalid parameters. the labor is low but the
part is very expensive.
Expect approximately $89 or less in labor, and $648 for the new PCM

Could mean there is one fault causing many faults, example, Air mass sensor, this can cause rough idle and over fuelling so the code reader will just send it back with undefined as there are to many faults to identify as the cause.
Most likely it will be a air fault so check the air sensor first, try cleaning it with carb cleaner, sometimes works. If not get back to me could be 2 other things. although the car will not drive very well if it is any of the other 2.
