Definitely not a shift solenoid. In first gear, both the A and B solenoids are on. In 2nd, the A solenoid drops out. In 3rd, both solenoids are off. In 4th, the A solenoid is on. The TPS does cause a lot of weird symptoms, though.Definitely not a shift solenoid. In first gear, both the A and B solenoids are on. In 2nd, the A solenoid drops out. In 3rd, both solenoids are off. Those would be some of my first guesses as well. You could begin to eliminate some of the culprits by flushing your trans. Take it to a quick lube or somewhere similar and get it flushed. Understand though, that if it's a fatal issue, and it's hanging by a thread, flushing could very well send it over the edge. I would highly recommend a transmission rebuild, as after 160k+ miles on a vehicle will put any transmission through it's paces. But flush first, and see what that tells you.
Sounds like the sensor for first gear.
The transmission comes with a shift sensor for each shift: if 4 shift, 4 sensor (including reverse).
Have somebody check the sensors and the cpu for the tranny. They go hand to hand.
Check the transmission fluid level, reverse needs twice the pressure to activate that drive does. If low refill and try again. If fluid good, I`d say the tranny 3rd reverse clutch is worn out. Recheck the condition of the fluid on the dipstick, if it appears burnt or very dirty I`d still suspect internal tranny clutch issues. It also has a low reverse clutch, but goes into 1st gear as you said.
COULD BE FAULTY 2 -3 SHIFT SOLENOIDS ALSO CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL.LOW FLUID LEVEL WILL CAUSE NO OVER DRIVE CONDITIONS. HAVE TRUCK CODE SCAN LOOK FOR CODE FIRST.DONT SPEND LOT OF MONEY GUESING.
You need to check the transmission fluid level, if it is low the tranny will not shift. If, however, the fluid is to the proper level then you will need a new transmission.
Try putting new fluid in and look for a leak in the pan gasket, then all you may need is a transmission service. When the service is done the mechanic will look for pieces of metal in the old fluid, if found this is very bad and you will need a new tranny.
You might consider a new or used car, you can definately find a good deal out there!
