This would depend on how long you actually ran this vehicle with the failed head gasket. if the temperature was hot enough, it could have warped the heads and replacing the gasket in this case wouldn't fix it. it would still leak.

NOw, if the block head is not warped and it didn't get to hot during the ruptured of the gasket(s), you may not have serious damage to the internals and replacing the gasket would be feasible at this point.

This job can take time and is not easy at all. it will take you and another assistant to complete and it can be hard work. not easy. remember, if your Engine reached a temperature that was really high and it was driven while the gasket was ruptured, it may have done considerable damage to the internals.

You will have to break down the engine to accomplish this repair if you choose to actually replace the gasket(s).

Please rate and god less:)

No different than any standard overhead valve engine. The option of replacing the entire engine should be made after considering the mileage of the current engine and how hot it got. Is there any water in the oil. The cylinder heads on the 4.3 vortec are very thin and are notorious for cracking, so if you do try and repair this engine make sure you have a machine shop pressure test the cylinder heads and you must replace the head bolts they are torque to yeild bolts.

On a scale of 1 to 10 it's about a 5 But, it is a lot easier than replacing an engine.

How to replace a head gasket on a Buick Park Avenue 1992 with a 3800 engine

Are you sure its a head gasket? The coolant cross over gaskets on the intake manifold are famous for blowing out and simulating a head gasket failure. 9 out of 10 times this is the problem. Good part is you have to pull the intake to do a head gasket, so id pull off the intake first, its not that hard on this motor. If they are blown you wont have any problem telling it.

Buick Park Avenue 1998 head gasket repair the mechcanic said it has blown head gasket and the engine must be removed to repair is this true

The engine does not need to be removed to replace the head gasket on your engine. More than likely it is an intake gasket that failed and showing the typical symptoms of a blown head gasket. If the intake gasket repair is put off long enough, it can turn into a blown head gasket and I've only had about a 50% success rate replacing the head gasket. They usually work fine for a few months, but the oil and water mix causes the oil to lose it's lubricating properties and even after fixing the cause of the problem, the damage may already be done to the engine bearings and the engine may knock later on down the road. You may want to get a quote on a used replacement engine if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a while and compare to the price of fixing it. In the long run, it will probably be a better solution.

Steeming from exhaust after new radiator fitted

Can only mean that the car has a blown head gasket or two being a Subaru or possible cracks in the heads. The car must have overheated before you put the new radiator in. It is very hard to remove the heads with the engine in the car , easier to do the job with the engine out. The gaskets for subarus are quite expensive. Make sure you have the heads surfaced and pressure checked before reassembly. Sorry about the bad news If this helps Please Vote Jeff

2000 gmc jimmy, engine shut off while drving and would not restart. Checked fuel pump and pressure, found fuel filter to be clogged. Replaced fuel filter and started vehicle. Problem now is that vehicle...

No,it sounds like coolant burning inside the engine combustion chambers. This explains the sputtering and power loss.most likely cause is a blown head gasket or severe overheating.Check the condition of the oil and make sure their is not antifreeze in the oil. Also check the coolant level.this will help to identify an internal engine concern.Dont think the fuel filter going out is related though. Hope this information helps,

Oil in the rad

If it's brown, you have a blown head gasket and most likely there is coolant in the engine oil pan as well. If the oil is red, it's transmission fluid leaking internally from the cooler...Radiator needs to be replaced and trans oil needs to be changed. You should not drive or run the engine with either condition.

Blown head gasket

It may be easier to remove the engine to get to everything you have to remove to replace a head gasket on this model. It has a timing chain that has to be removed then the intake then the exhaust manifolds then the effected head.
