Stopped and started the car several times today and when I arrived home this evening the fan would not stop running.  Can the fan be disconnected by a fust to not run down the battery?

There is a fuse in fuse block underhood..but it sounds like a stuck cooling fan relay..is located on pass side front frame rail..you have to remove both headlamps and front bumper cover to access relay

When I turn the engine off the main radiator fan keeps running and is draining the battery. Why?

well the electric fan will turn on and off at any time. when you stop your vehicle and the fan continues to run what is happening is the temp sensor says the motor is still too hot and it needs more cooling. now as it reaches the cooling temp it is also suppose to shut it down. have the sensors checked.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The vehicle has recently started over heating. When I start to drive the car in the morning, the engine temperature reads cold until I turn the heater on. Once the...

If running the heater keeps the engine from overheating, this is usually a sign of a fan failure. I don't want to dismiss the coolant on the ground, but if your engine is getting hot enough, it's going to boil the coolant and it will come out the overflow tube on the expansion tank.

Testing the fans is different depending on the engine you have. Electric fans are attached to the radiator and are seperate from the engine. A clutch fan is a fan that is driven off a shaft directly on your engine. If you have electric fans, turn on your AC with the engine running. The fans should spin up. If you have a clutch fan, it should spin all the time.

The easiest thing to do however, is replace your thermostat. If that sticks closed, it won't allow coolant to flow. Again, this is different depending on your engine, but if you look at your radiator, and follow the top hose back to the engine, this is were your thermostat should be.

And lastly, you can check your water pump, but this is a it subjective. You'll have to remove the serpentine belt to do this. Grab the pulley on the pump and wiggle, you shouldn't have any play. Try to turn it. It should not turn *too* easily.

I just had the radiator fan relay replaced today because the fan would not shut off when I turned engine off. I had to pull fuse to stop fan.I Stopped for gas on way home from shop. When I restarted car,...

it sounds as if there might be a burned fuse. instead of replacing the rad fan relay i suppose they should have looked further. I'd be willing to bet they would find a faulty fan which in turn is taking out ur fuse or relay. With a faulty fan, it will require way more current to get it going then normal, overloading the circuit, blowing the fuse, or even, over loading the relay. I would be willing to bet now, you have a burned fuse due to a faulty rad fan.. good luck

Electric radiator fan will not shut off

Have you checked the fan relay to make sure it hasn't burned internally and is now stuck on?

1999 grand cherokee jeep -coolant fan will not shut off

Hi Jeepers,

The fan will occassionally continue to run for five or ten minutes after the vehicle shuts down. This is normal.

What is not normal is if it keeps running until the battery drains.

Does it just keep running?
If it eventually shuts off, how long does it take?
Did this just start happening?
The two days you mentioned, were they short trips, opposed to the third day?

If you would comment me back with some more details, it would help me help you.

1995 Jeep Cherokee chugging - minor backfiring won't excelerate

Sounds like it is running lean because of fuel not getting through or air getting in. Taking foot off pedal means the air fuel ratio changes and the engine can run ok at low revs. Has the hot wire on the fi been checked. The last time this happened to me was in a alfa when the crud in the tank blocked the final fuel filter into the carb. The fuel system has several filters so check them all.

The cooling fan keeps running even when the car is shut off. It keeps running until the battery gives out.

The fan is suppose to run until engine cools off. If battery drains before cooling down a good place to start is a weak battrey
