Stalling or Low Engine Idle Speed Due to Dirty ... - Repair

They both have crank sensors. crank sensor is the same as RPM sensor. Both cars need rpm signal. You could compare the inputs and match differences...but BYPASSING or skipping isnt ever a good idea. The 97 if I recall required crank and tdc. the 93 simply had a distributor reluctor generating both,.
WHat I recommend is you dont mix and match engines that arent compatible or change the incompatible pieces. Life is much easier both at 1st start and in the future when it needs repair.
However, you can get the crank/rpm signal from the 93 distributor, move it to the same wires ast he 97 lists, and it MAY fire. Youll still have to deal with cam and TDC, and all sorts of other incompatioble parts.. the 93 5 speed ECM should still work fine, so its a 5 speed? the engine doesnt care. Was t just not cranking because of the clutch switch input you now didnt have? You could jumper those pins (blue n black?) and bypass that. At least then all your ECM inputs are correct and in the right pins. That seems alot easier than mixing and matching year parts.

Sounds like the pickup modual on distributor gets hot and malfunctions .after it warms up and it fails to start check for spark if no fire to spark plugs replace pickup module.

This is caused by a number of things, but one is more common, that is a dirty automatic Idle speed control system. Clean it as outlined below.

To correct this problem get a can of throttle valve cleaner (it is made by CRC) from the local auto parts store, spray it into the air intake of the engine until you have used about half the can, you will need to hold the idle up while you do this, it will try to stall, after this shut the engine down and disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable for 5 minutes. The intake is now clean, if you continue to have the idle speeds problems you may need to seek the help of a professional.

i had this problem once my friend and local mechanic said it was a bad/old distributor cap i replaced it and the problem went right away.

My honest opinion on this year and mode of car is that the carburetor was very poorly manufactured for a honda. After a some mileage on them the tend to go out of wack, when you try to adjust they either get to low and cut off or idles way to high there is really no medium in them. Your best bet it to get a re-manufactured carb and take car of your problem. Good Luck

)The fact that thge engine idle fluctuates when it is cold indicates that the Fast Idle THermo Valve is out of adjustment.
This valve is located ot the front of the intake manifold on the driver's side just below the accelerator cable. To adjust it, wait until the engine is cold (best to do it first thing in the morning).
Remove the two screws holding the cover on and start the engine. There is a brass needle sticking up through a plastic ring that has two slots in it. With the engine idle fluctuating, use a thin flat blade screwdriver to SLOWLY turn the ring CLOCKWISE
until the idle stabilizes. Once done. put the cover back on withg the two screws and you should be done.
