During the summer/hot humid weather my head and tail lights would intermittently blink/flash on and off. I also heard a lot of clicking behind the dashboard when the flashing was happening. I thought the Aurora was being visited by a vindictive ghost of a former owner! This flashing finally stopped, but now I have no dashboard lights and the tail lights do not come on when I turn on the headlights. I've also just noticed that my heater is not working properly--coming in and out intermittently also. It would be great to be able to tell the mechanic what needs to be done. Any ideas?
Well it sounds like a computer issue the one that needs replacement is the " body ecu " it controls the lights, heater, seat belt sound and etc. should be under the dash.
Have a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora. I pushed the lumbar adjust button on driver side door and the care chimes and everything went blank. The gauges on dashboard for heat/speed/RPM's/fuel show zero and the computer is blank. No heat or blower, no rear defrost but radio, lighter, headlights, in inside lights work.. I had it hooked up to OBD II and it wouldn't even recognize my vehicle. Someone said it is the brain of the car. Does anyone know what it might be or where I start. My fuses have been checked and they are all good.

does your vehicle have tilt wheel...that is a common problem and your brake light wires run down through the steering column
SOURCE: Dashboard controls dead (no speedometer..), hazard light flashing
Your problems remind me of the time I forgot one last wire when changing engines on a Chevy pickup and I pulled it in two. It was a ground strap from the frame to engine which I didn't see in my haste to the get the job done. After the engine swap and everything was up and running the fuel guage would read full, then empty, then full again. Gauges in unision would peg right and then in left directions. Heater would set it self, and the radio. I was convinced it was possessed.
The farmer I was doing the work for spotted the broken ground strap and wanted that soldered back together as he knew I had a very good soldering iron to do that with. When I finished with the solder, the poltergeists were gone and have not returned. I would suggest you have a missing or loose ground strap somewhere. It might be stuck in your shifter works making it not act normal as well.

You didn't mention replacing your water pump....that is what it is if you have NOT replaced it.

you have to leave it in the on position until the light stops flashing and then turn the car all the way to the off position then start it it works everytime for me make sure your radio and everything if off so it wont drain your battery

Testimonial: "Thank you. However, when the car is running, we turn on the headlights and the relay on the driver side dash board chatter stops. ANY THOUGHTS??????? We are thinking of looking at the multi function turn signal switch."
