Hi there. There could be a number of problems here, the three focus points should be a faulty MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor or there might be a problem with VTEC if that's fitted on your particular engine and the other is the Crank Angle Sensor. Firstly, you need to check out the PGM-FI ECU and see what LEDs flashing, this will certainly help narrow down the problem. As a visual check, make sure all the vacuum pipe connections are in-place and there are no broken, cracked or loose vacuum pipes, especially to the MAP sensor. Failing that, you might need the help of the Honda Dealer - but that's what I'd be looking at firstly. Best regards. Scottech

If it runs good no worries. Your check engine light will turn on if theres a problem in one of your sensor, reving it on hi rpm will normally give you a light..

Sounds like it could be either a split vacuum hose or your idle control valve is faulty.

Engine light is on, revs to over 8000 RPM ... check gas cap as instructed by owner guide and said to drive 3 days and it should shut off .. now rev'ing over 8000 RPM

not a good situation! could blow your engine!! take it to a qualified honda dealer, and have them run code check on it- may be 'tps'- throttle position sensor. the code read may cost more than the fix! however, 8k rpms aren't healthy for your engine- so, check and fix may be cheaper than replacing engine! could also be your fuel vapor recovery canister is 'over -loaded', but unlikely!
good luck!

I have a 1998 honda prelude h22 vetc automatic with 178K the motor runs fine but the transmisson when i put it in reverse i knocks the it will do fine threw first kinda slip in second and then not go into...

Definitely change the transmission oil - could be some rubbish in there stopping the actuators working correctly. If that doesn't work, could be time for rebuild with new friction material in the clutches.

You need to check the tcm for codes too. The s3 light is like the check engine light for the tcm. The VSS code might be your problem.

1992 honda prelude transmission wont go into gear

Sounds like the pressure plate! Try this, rev the engine for a sec then when it starts to slows down try to put it in reverse - if the gears grind, its the pressure plate which will come with the clutch kit for about 125-175.00.
