Need to replace a rear wheel bearing, can't even get the hub off!!!
I've been told I have a rear wheel beariing gone on a 2004 Kia Rio and it's easily replaced. however, I couldn't even get the hub off although it was off just the week before.
How do I replace it?

Pull off rim. there is a cap in the center of the hub that you will have to tap/pry out with a screwdriver, then remove bolt and slide hub off. thats how i fixed mine.

Oil leaking "in" your valve cover? Where is the oil at/coming from? And, to answar your question, rear main seal is a real job! Requires removing transmission, flex plate/fly wheel! It is the crank shaft seal, on the "rear" of the engine!
Over torque of the spindle locknut and improper grease packing are the main failures I would think. I did numerouse brake jobs on mine and allways used new seals cleaned out the bearings and repacked them dont forget to fill in the inside of the hub with more grease where needed. A new spindle lock nut is a must 75 cents at the dealer i had no luck finding them at the local parts stores. Remember new bearings and and races must be used press the races in properly. There is a special tool drag seal meter to use I dont have one so i would torque the nut to 20 FT LBS while turning the hub back and forth untill it was seated then back off the nut till loose and re torque the nut to 3-5 foot LBS stake it and have never had an issue hopefully this help you out
Get all wheel bearings replaced.A car of that age shouldn't have wheel bearings failing so early.Try getting something aftermarket as Kia parts are not that reliable. There are heaps of complaints about this car if you google.
clean all the grease if there is any out of the hub, turn the hub over and using a drift and hammer strike the shell from the back edge working around the shell as you go, should not take too much to remove it but you will need a bit more than a tap with the hammer.
Hope this has helped you
Loosen the remaining lug nuts, then jack up the car, take off the wheel, and ease off the brake drum. Whack the end of the stud to start it out of the hole, then take a rod, buggered up socket extension, or other object and drive out the stud the rest of the way. Be careful not to use too much force or you will damage the wheel bearings. If it doesn't want to come out, take the hub off, put it down on a solid surface, and whack the heck out of it. Once the stud is out insert the stud into the hole and thread on the lug nut to pull the lug into the hub. After going as far as it will go, back off the lug nut, put the drum and wheel back on, thread the lug nuts back on, hand tighten, and then lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the rest of the way.
