Could be a number of things. Ford's usually go through the computer to adjust the idle in order to compensate for a vacuum leak. Is the check engine light on and if so what trouble code(s) are you getting. I would start in order to repair the problem (With codes or not) by cleaning the throttle plae. The one that opens and closes in the throttle bpdy. Don't forget to disconnect the battery so the throttle position sensor works on learning a new idle. This is a commen problem for Ford products due to the gas with all the products in it that you buy no days. They leave a carbon build up and the throttle plate doesn't close all the way but the idle was set by the computer without all the carbon build up and that's all the computer knows. Hope this help and if you can get the trouble codes you can reply here or email me directly with them...

SOURCE: crankcase capacity for 2003 ford focus 2.0 liter split port engine

Hi,

To my knowledge, a 2003 Ford Focus 2.0 SPi engine would need 4 quarts of engine oil (roughly 3.78 liters). Incidentally, the Ford/Cosworth Zeta/Zetec engine would be needing 4.25 quarts (~4 liters).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: Ford Focus Engine Light

Start by getting either a mechanic or someone with an OBDII scanner to read the code so you know where to start. Lots of time a loose gas cap will cause a "Evap system small leak" code which illuminates the check engine light for a while. Other than that I can't help you much without knowing what code comes up.

Hey there...

Although I'm questioning why it would be doing this mostly on cold mornings, I would suggest that you check your battery connections. 99 times out of 100, the reason that this happens is because one of the battery cables does not have a good connection (Many times it's the ground wire). If you check to make sure that the connections on both ends of both cables are tight, then try taking your vehicle to your local parts store to have them do a load test on your battery. It's possible that the c.c.a. (cold cranking amps) are no longer sufficient to start your car. After awhile, batteries tend to lose their charge due to age, how many times it has been discharged completely, and also frequent cold weather. I believe that this should solve things, but feel free to contact me to ask about any other possibilities that may be causing this, as I'll look into any other similar common issues on your particular make and model. Should be battery cables or battery itself, though. Hope this helps and have a great day!

Have a 2003 ford focus. idling problem

if you have 14 volts or more at the battery at 1000 rpms, the battery & alternator are fine. If you get the same surge when you turn the bower motor on high speed, it is just the normal load on the alternator as it puts out more current. The engine is supposed to compensate by kicking up the idle. It does this through the IAC, idle air control. You may need to clean the IAC passages and the throttle body passages. I also would clean the MAF sensor heated wires with carb cleaner or MAF sensor cleaner. The MAF is in the iar intake hose and has a 2 or 3 wire connector going to it. The heated wires are in the air stream. Then disconnect the battery for 2 hours to clear the "Keep alive memory"
It will relearn after you drive for 10 miles. May run rough for that time.
good luck.

2003 FORD FOCUS - CAR WON'T START/AFRAID OF ENGINE STALLING

The battery acid build up is your problem. Its causing a draw on the battery besides the starter. You need to clean the posts off with just warm water. No baking soda. Then you should be fine. The alternator will have enough time to charge the battery back up when your driving.

Ford focus, 2000 zx3 code p0455

your engine code means "big leak" in the evap control system, this system has alot of pieces, but you are looking for a vacuum leak most probably, look at your vacuum hoses, and refer to the vacuum diagram stuck under your hood for routing, see if you have a bad hose, or disconnected hose some where. these are small vacuum hoses that attach to the purge valve, air filter housing, and charcoal cannister. let me know what you find.
