Your Transmission is controlled by a cable on the mustang. it could have Came off of the transmission. it just snaps on to a lever on the transmission. or the cable broke. other wise it came unhooked from your shifter.

I can go in reverse but not in drive

Takes two people. Block the wheels, climb under the car and check the linkage.

My 97 Ford Explorer will go in reverse but will not engage in drive or any other gears

1997 was the second generation Explorer

5.0 -4.9lt V8 or German 4.0 V6

No AWD until 2002

The V8 had a 4R70W
The V6 had a 5R55E

4 & 5 speeds --No 3 Spd

Think your Transmission is due fro a rebuild

My 2000 mustang has a 3.8l automatic transmission and won't go into gear.. any gear.. just revs.. reverse works fine.. what might be the problem?

It could possibly be a problem with your torque converter in your ******. Its definitly worth taking it to a transmission shop to get it checked out.

Does my Mustang have a low gear?

the C4 automatic transmission is a 3 speed transmission, it shifts by hydraulic pressure controlled by a governor and actuators, I would check your linkage to see that it is hooked up correctly to allow movement through all range selections, disconnect the linkage at the trans and see how many detents you feel while moving the lever back and forth, make sure to chock your vehicle as moving the lever from Park may cause the car to move. Let me know what you find, hope this helps
