SOURCE: fixed check engine trouble code but light with same code comes on

Your transmission problem could be related to the TPS sensor. The TPS sensor indicated to the PCM when and what gear the transmission should be in. As for the Lucas and other additives to the transmission may be doing it more harm then good, As the transmission oil is thicker, the transmission line pressure increases. The PCM try's to compensate for that by letting the converter lock up clutch to slip and the fluid retention in the solenoid to change gears stick causing it to shudder between gear shifts. Recap, Check the TPS sensor readings and the Wire Harness. Look for loose connections and corrosion that may not be giving the proper readings to the ECM. Rescan the car for any DTC codes and most transmission chop can do that for you if your going to get it serviced there anyways. Have the transmission fluid flushed and filter changed, and have them do a transmission line pressure checked, there are additives out there to keep the fluid from foaming which is ok, but changing the fluid's weigh can cause transmission failure. Good luck and hope this helps and keep me posted, be glad to help.

It wont shift into overdrive the transmission has pressure I changed to fluids when I go to pass it wont shift into overdrive

strange as it may sound, transmissions do not shift into overdrive to pass
they down shift a ratio to get extra torque from the motor and will stay down shifted until the vacuum actuator shifts it back and only then when the VSS reports to the TCM that a ratio change up is needed will the overdrive click in
If you cannot get OD under any circumstances run the fault codes and check for a problem overdrive servo/ solenoid , TCM unit

What does it mean when the O/D off come on

This is the "overdrive" on or off indicator light. When it says "OD off", means that overdrive is off and transmission is in 3rd gear. When it's "on" then transmission will shift into 4th gear or "Overdrive". The engine will turn slower using less fuel for better economy.

Theres a button on the automatic stick what is it

That may be your overdrive button, try cruising at a steady safe speed and depress the button, you will feel a shifting motion on transmission and OD light may come ON on dashboard, this shifts your tranny to a lower gear when more power is needed without pressing gas pedal so hard that passing gear kicks in.

Volvo 240 GL Transmission

You have an overdrive relay issue. The tansmission is really a four-speed box, but the OD selector either locks our fourth gear or allows the car to shift normally into fourth. I use the OD on my volvo all the time, because the revs drop in half when the OD is activated, The relay is located behind the glove box, toward the center console. $10 buck on Ebay and your transmission should shift correctly again. I would try that BEFORE more expensive fixes, like OD solenoid $200 or transmission control module. Just for kicks a picked up a spare ECU on Ebay for $10 because these get costly if and when they go. Easy fix, though, a couple of plugs.
