I recently got a automatic 1999 Chevy Suburban 1500. Right away I had to get a new steering column. It has always been a little difficult to shift (pulling it down from park to reverse, drive etc). To

Check the adjustment on the steering column shift mechanism. Loosen of the adjustment or linkage and place in park then re tension the linkage.

First check the fuse located in fuse box under hood. The most common problem is in the push-button switch located in the dash. I am a 67 year old female and fixed my boyfriend's 4WD in under 1/2 hour last week-end. You can order a new switch on eBay for under $40.00. Adjust steering wheel to lowest position and pull shift lever all the way down. Remove dash bezel from around gauges and switch (it just pops loose). This takes a little time getting it off from around steering column, etc. Just be gentle and patient. Snap out old switch, unsnap wiring, replace with new switch, snap in, replace dash bezel and you're done! There is a video on uTube showing steps. His 4X4 works perfect now and I get to tease him Double benefit. This was on a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500. Let me know how it goes. Good Luck! -Marilyn

Did you remember to put the truck in neutral before 4lo this is the only way I have ever been able to get it in.

if your actuator is brand new i would just take it back cause some times even the brand new ones arent in good working order

ok there are 2 bolts under the dash 4 on the floor and the yoke your going to have to take off the plastics around the the collum ther are 4 screws and it comes off. there are two sets of electrical clips you will have to take apart you will see a little push clip and pull apart after that it will be free and slide right out. for the steering wheel there are 2 screws behind it that will take off the air bag and un plug it then one bolt and you will need a puller to take it off thats only if you want it.

the first thing i would try is to chg the neutral safety switch located under the dash on the steering column.

Hello, This vehicle should not be able to be shifted from park if the key is not in the ignition. If it can be there is a problem with the shift interlock system in the steering column. Thank You

do u have a sterring colum mounted shifter if so the sterrin colum shifting mechinisoms might be out of wack.
