Ball Joints I've never replaced ball joints before. I was just curious as to how much labor is involved. My vehicle is a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD w/ 5.2LV8. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I highly recommend that you have a press available, they dont screw in unfortunatly.
To change uper ball joints; Remove tire Pull codder pin and remve nut Tap ball joint out of wheel/ brake assembly Remove upper control arm compleatly Use Press to push old ball joint out of controll arm.
A torch may be nessisary to heat controll arm. Press new ball joint all the way into controll arm Reinstall every thing Get a professional front end alignment.

Good lcuk and hope this helps.

I am wondering the labor hours by the book to replace both upper U-joints, Both outer tie rods and both lower ball joints on a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500.

try going google and typing in-- labor hours for dodge ram 2002 ---
remember that you have to add up all the hours for each job
for example remove and replace a ball joint may be .3 hours but to get to the ball joints there will be
remove and refit wheel, .1 hrs
remove calliper .5 hours etc
so the remove and replace the ball joint total will add up to 1 hour
if you get a pdf version down load you will see what I mean

What are the symptoms that my upper rear ball joints on my 2006 Dodge Status need to be replaced and what is the labor time involved per side?

If you have a small floor jack you can check ball joints easily. Place the jack under the lower control arm close to the tire and raise the tire a few inches off the ground then using a long pry bar or other lever device, pry upwards under the center of the tire while looking and feeling for movement. You should not detect any movement in the joints. Average shop rate is about 1 hour to replace one joint. Of course the labor on any other work being done should reflect that they already pulled the wheel and have half the rear assembly apart anyway.

Ball joint issues

wheel alignment, make sure you have it done at alignment shop, not a regular mechanic shop, also some newer vehicles have shims like adaptors, make sure they're on properly.otherways the nut is tight but the ball joint is still loose.

What is the estimated cost to replace the ball joints on a 2001 Land Rover Discovery SE (91k mi.)?

HI. Ok, This vehicle is equipped with an upper and lower set of ball joints. The prices are as follows:

Parts price will be $40.00 for the upper set
The labor is set to $195.00 for the upper replacement procedure.

Parts price for the lower ball set will be $40.00.
The labor price for the lower replacement procedure will be $165.00

NOTE_ Land Rover recommends to replace the upper and lower, in this situation. Total cost, if you chose to replace the upper and lower ball sets, will be $80.00 for the parts, and $360.00 on the labor.

Upper ball joint removal

I have a 98 dodge ram 4wd, and i am an auto mechanic. I replaced all 4 ball joints and both axle joints and did my front end alignment in about 4 hours. The ball joints are pressed into the front axle yoke holes. If you have a ball joint press tool (which i used) it works out pretty easily in a decent amount of time. Otherwise if your lucky, you could use a hammer, which is not nearly as easy. Also, sometimes depending on how long and rusted the front end is, you might have to heat up the area a little with a torch.I also recommend using the best ball joints you can afford, because it would **** to have to do it all again after another 10,000-60,000 miles.

01 ram ball joints removeal and replacement

They're pressed in. If you do them, do only one side at a time. Buy the ball joints and take a set at a time to say NAPA. They will press them out and press them in for cheap. Overall...you will save a few hundred dollars.
