Your truck could be on a limp mode since your transmission is controlled by the ECM.
Here is a way for you to retrieve the fault codes in the ECM that is keeping your transmission from shifting past 2nd gear. Just be careful not to burn out the transmission.
On board diagnostic (OBD) was designed on vehicles equipped with electronic fuel injection so you can generally retrieve the codes yourself. No need buying a scanner or running to any parts stores to check the engine light. This system is called obd1 and applies to most vehicles made before 1995 for domestics and 1993 on imports.

For GM domestic vehicles made before 1995, the diagnostic connector is located under the dash panel by the driver side. To get the check engine codes to flash in your dash panel, use a jumper wire or a paper clip and connect terminals A and B of the diagnostic connector. Turn your ignition key on with engine off and the codes should start to blink. All codes should start with code 12 which is one long flash followed by 2 short flashes. This code 12 means the diagnostic system is normal and will repeat itself continuously if there are no trouble codes. Otherwise, code 12 will flash 3 times before flashing the fault codes.

For GM and domestic vehicles and most of the codes can be erased or cleared by disconnecting the battery negative terminal for 1 minute and reconnect. Just make sure to check your service manual in case you have electronic equipment such as radio or clock that needs reprogramming in which battery disconnection is not recommended. Finally after performing repairs on the culprit code, always go for a road test to confirm if the problem is fixed.

Good luck and here is a link for the OBD 1 codes. http://chevythunder.com/199295_lt1_trouble_codes.htm#Code 28

I have a 2000 Chevy Blazer 4x4 the transmission wont shift out of 2nd gear. I still have reverse, 1st and 2nd but it wont go from 2nd to drive. the speedometer also quit working it has approx. 122,800...

Sounds like you have lost a shaft(sungear) in the transmission. It can be repaired, but you can get a used one for less than half the cost. Repair-$1300.00+, used - around $500.00

97 chevy half ton, all these problems are intermittent. Auto transmission, wont shift down to first or up to od, so all I have is 2nd and 3rd. when the transmission isnt working my tack and speedo do...

97 c1500 or k1500,. not told. just 1/2 ton sure. K1500 is 4wd got that?
the 4wd sensors are not the same. ok? no engine told either, guess 4.3L only
4L60-E; 4 speed Automatic trans. or 4L80e
that is and E box, electronically TCM shifted.
and the speed sensors must all work!! must !
it it can not shift correctly.
that is a fact.
you replaced 1 but never say the speedo was fixed, yes the speedo matters
OD is 4th gear,
the TCM can be scanned, why not do that?
stuck in 2nd gear is common for TRANNY LIMPHOME
it does that when sensors or solenoids go bad.
making car safe to drive to a shop only that is all limphome means just that.
beats a 100% dead car no? for sure.

sensors all 2, input speed and outputs speed, and if 4wd OSS is on the rear of 4wd transfer care, moved, for 4wd.
solenoids not bad in box. 1>2 and 2>3 shift and 3<4 shift.
scan the TCM.

the ECM on the car 4.3L runs the Tranny (TCM logic) 12 connection.
so not scanning the ECM OBD2 port ,you fully miss the boat and it sailed
the good ship of facts gone. DTC errors for sure missed.

My 1993 Chevy van won't shift pass 2nd gear

Rebuild the transmission. This is an issue with the TH700-R4 as well as the 4E60LE transmissions. Sorry but that is the only way.

93 Chevy, gear shift **** between 2nd and 3rd

Remove the fluid - get a good flash light - get a very long screw driver - put the screw driver into the drain hole and force the transmission out of gear. Then remove the Transmission and replace or repair. Cheaper to replace. You bent the forks on the shift mechanism.
