98 ford escortLX starts and runs for about 1 min and then stalls

1998 escort LX starts fine and then stalls after about 1 min of running.. some days it runs fine and some days doesn't(outdoor temp around 70 degrees). all new plugs, wires, ignition module, fuel filter... after it stalls, when you restart it, the engine runs rough, stalls after a few seconds, and I can smell fuel. I can hear fuel pump running. I checked for codes and found O2 sensor fault (was told engine should still run) Car has 150,000 miles. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Will cut off and on and every now and then will stall and will not start for a while then it will start and run fine

I had the same issue on a 1998 Protege LX, and it was the crank position sensor, about $55 at autozone and 20 mins to change out.

Is it an engine with a carburetor? If so, I can help with this information:

If the car stalls when it warms up, as you said, then here's a handy diagnostic article that specifically addresses this issue of yours, explaining the most probable cause of it:

If the car stalls when you brake/stop, as you said, then here's a handy diagnostic article that specifically addresses this issue of yours, explaining the probable cause of it:

1989 EscortTac shows surges in RPM, but engine does not race up.

How many miles, has the timing belt ever been changed? (60,000-70,000 miles) when the belt gets near or over it's recommended change mileage it will get loose and cause the engine to run like it has a miss, mostly when cold, also u may need to do the following procedure, Escorts need this more than most other Ford cars
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

1995 ford escort lx

your catalytic converter plugging up will cause these problems. if it gets bad enough it won't allow engine to run at all, to much back pressure.

Starting Problem

Look on the distributor. There is a module on it that, when too hot, will cause miss/stall/no re-start situations.
