I have checked BMW schedule time for repair which is 2.25 hrs. This details
R+ R COMPRESSOR
DRAIN/REFILL AIR CONDITIONING
R + R FRONT ASSEMBLY PROTECTION
R + R DRIVE PULLEY ALTERNATOR .
Hope this helps.
Look up your car on RealOEM.com. It shows the belt shape when installed.
Good that you asked. I understand that it is physically possible to get it to fit with the alternator spinning backwards.
I presume that you just replaced belts and pulleys. A 2003 would be about due.
Be glad you don't have a 330 rather than a 325. The 330 is just enough tighter space to make the job about four times as difficult. (I have both).
Below are diagrams for both the M44 and the M50 engines. On the M44, you may need to hold the tensioner in the retracted position with a drill bit or hex tool through the hole in the front of the tensioner. The belt tensioner is automatic so no tightening is necessary. Best of luck! Greg M44
Make sure you take note of how it is installed, as it can sometimes be difficult to work out where it should go.
You need to release the pressure on the belt, by adjusting the tensioner.
You should find a diagram somewhere in the engine bay, that shows how the belt is routed. The tensioner is normally indicated on this diagram.
I think on your car, the tensioner pulley has a hex bolt on it, which can be loosened, to move the pulley. The tensioner pulley applies pressure to the outside (smooth) side of the belt.
