Gear shifter cable

Not sure if it has to do with the cable, but i have a 1996 Nissan 200sx se-r 2.0L. the 1st, 3rd, and 5th gear is stuck where neutral position was. neutral is now where the 2nd, 4th, and reverse was. 2nd, 4th, and reverse are no longer accessible

Sounds like a stretched gear shift cable or the linkage on the tranny may need some adjusting i would start with the linkage first jack vehicle up and do a visual while some one goes through the gears make sure to use jack stands so that the power wheels are off the ground.....good luck

SOURCE: cannot shift properly

My Saturn did the same thing - twice. Where the clutch cables connects to the shifter box(??) there is a little clip that had fallen off. The first time this happened, the mechanic told me that I needed to replace the whole shifter box - costing me $400 dollars. The second time - about two years later a different mechanic charged me $15 for the clip and labor.

1996 Ford Ranger xlt manual transmission can"t shift into 3rd and 4th gear

If it grinds when trying to shift, it is the synchronizers. Rebuild. If it pops out of gear. there is a plastic part at the top of the transmission that wears out. It fits around the ball of the shifter. It is two pieces. You'll have to remove the floor plate and pull it up to access the bolts to remove the shifter and replace those plastic pieces.

1st 3rd and 5th gears are spongy to shift into

Start with the firs post and have those cables and linkage assembly looked at if those are good then what you have is a loose bolt on the transmission that bolt is responsible to keep the gear in place when loose the transmission will do what you described as well nothing more nothing less.

Saturn 1996 SC2 5 speed driverside shifter cable stuck not broken but wont move

Check the linkage at the tranny... make sure that the levers can move. It sounds like they may have messed up their proper positions.

I was wondering if you can replace an autiomatic transmition to a manual one in a 1996 nissan sentra 200sx se-r turbo

yes you can but there is a bit of converting, and it is not that easy or cost effective.
The best way is to have a doner car that you can take all the needed parts off.
You will need the clutch pedal, master cyl, slave cyl and hydolic lines. unless it has a cable operated clutch then of coures you would need that stuff.
Then you will need the center console with the shifter.
Then you will need the flywheel and clutch disk and pressure plate.
I am not completely sure but I believe you will have to change the computer too.
I hope this helps you decide.

Try the wrecking yards to find another transmission. I have no idea what a shell casing is in a transmission.

Shifter linkage will not align on 97 200sx with standard tranny

you may have the wrong transmission type. the shifters are sort of universal on those cars. like the 5 speed can fit the se or se-r.
