check oil level ---yes it can but tapping noise can be a lot more reasons --worn oil -low oil pressure--low oil level--rocker loose-worn or damaged lifter-worn damaged valves --timing chain --water pump--pulley --really anything can cause a tapping noise --try to isolate the area or sound and diagnose problem

Tapping noise

blown or clogged oil pump. The tapping noise may be a bearing or lifter, I would not run it until problem is fixed, you could blow a piston rod out the side of your engine. check the oil pump to see if is operating. if not, replace.

This is my subaru impreza gx (non turbo) it's just developed a ticking/tapping noise I've checked the oil and that was fine. The noise isn't a constant thing. It seams to get faster when accelerating

You possibly have a valve tap, do you rip on your motor a lot? If so you may have messed up the valve gauge and it could possibly be hitting the piston at a minuscule amount just enough to make a tapping noise.

Loud tapping noise comming from motor

Have the noise listened to by a shop, that is by far the best thing to do.
