It definitely sounds like a problem in the fuel delivery system which could also very well be traced to an electrical malfunction as being the primary source. There are several things that can go wrong with the fuel delivery system and due to the numerous possibilities, I would have to narrow it all down through process of elimination by either asking for specifics details in engine's behavior prior to this occurrence, or my being there my self. If it is the fuel pump, and it stopped functioning, it is either not getting the 12 volt DC needed to work, or it got worn out. The main cause for a fuel pump wearing out prematurely is neglecting to change the fuel filter as directed by factory recommendations and WILL get plugged with debris eventually. This will cause the fuel pump to labor and work harder than it was designed and it will subsequently cease function (burn out) sooner or later.....Not to overshadow the advice from the previous person, though it does work in some cases....Beating a malfunctioning component with a piece of wood might be more of an effective repair method for fixing a persons malfunction of thinking, should it ever be discovered that the cause was an act of vandalism.......Not that this is the case as I am only being facetious, though possible.....It is slightly coincidental that this happened right after you left your girlfriend's house, as you mentioned.

Fuel pump works? if you cant hear it when you turn the key on then take a piece of wood(2x4)and wrap the bottom of the gas tank until it works,if it works then replace the fuel pump, check the fuses and fuel shutoff switch first before pulling out the tank

My sons 99 Neon recently quit running. He said it started but when he put it in drive to pull away, it went backwards then died. Then nothing, the starter wouldnt crank at all. I replaced the starter and...

. I would check the shifter cable. If it broke in reverse while you're son was putting it in drive that would cause it to remain in reverse . Being stuck in reverse would also cause it not to start because it's in gear.

My 98 grand prix if starting fine but seems like its kinda struggling when idling then I put in drive and step on gas and it sputters but doesn't die

Check the idle Air Control Valve...located near the throttle body, air intake plenum...remove the solenoid, spray out the housing with injector cleaner...wipe out after...should turn your rag black with carbon...pray the solenoid too and wipe clean...you can replace this solenoid for about $35. set itself when you drive over 35 mph...also check air filter...needs replaced every 12,000 miles...also add gas tank additive injector cleaner...STP super concentrated works great for me...Hope these inexpensive fixes work for your GP...

Dodge charger wont go over 35 mph

I have a 2007 Dodge Charger won't go over 35-40 mph and once you get up to that speed it jumps back and forth and when you start it and put it in gear to go it jumps real hard. My mechanic and a transmission specialist said it was a bad tranny I bought a used tranny and the used one wouldn't even shift into gear so now putting another tranny and another computer system in it. Does anyone know anything else it could be I'm so tired of this vehicle

1973 dodge 318 truck starts and drives fine until 35-40 mph then dies

Sounds like a fuel supply problem. Does it pop through the carberator as it it is dying, like a lean back fire? If you drove it up a hill would it die before 35 or 40 mph? If the fuel demand excedes the fuel supply the engine will die, but would restart after cranking the engine for awhile. Possibly a plugged fuel filter, fuel line, rotten fuel hose, ( sucking air ) or tired fuel pump. Hope this helps.
