1990 Ford Crown Vic Serpentine Belt Problem

On my 1990 Ford Crown Victoria I recently had to change the serpentine belt (2nd pulley on this model) that routes around the compressor, crankshaft, and one more part. When I tried to take the previous one off the way the belt tensioner was put on it seemed as if it was already loosened but the belt was IMPOSSIBLE to take off so we had to cut it off with wire cutters. Now the second new belt needs to be put on and it is again impossible to slip it back on over the compressor even when the belt tensioner is loosened..Anyone know the problem..A couple of folks have looked at it and said that my tensioner needs a bolt for pressure but we cant find any missing bolt holders..I believe it was rigged up badly.

Sounds like someone rigged this when replacing the belt previously. The 'old school' way would be to unbolt the compressor to slide on the belt.

I was driving my 1993 crown vic when all of a sudden the power steering stopped working and the battery light came on the dash board lights, car starts fine but wont steer

The serpentine belt, located in the front of the engine compartment on the front of the engine, has either come off or broken. In that case, you may need another belt. Or the idler pulley has gone bad. Look, using the aid of a flashlight if necessary, for a pulley that is loose. Good Luck!

My 2001 Ford Crown Victoria A/C clutch pulley is not turning properly and is causing the serpentine belt to break. How can I by-pass or neutralize the A/C pulley so engine can run without A/C until I can...

Just go buy a belt listed for your vehicle without a/c. If there isn't one listed, the guys at the parts store should be able to help you find one through trial and error.

My 1998 crown victoria steering is making a skweeky sounds when i make turns

This indicates an issue with the power steering system. First, locate the power steering fluid resevoir under the hood. Then open it and check the fluid level. If that is low, check your vehicle manual for the correct type of fluid to add. Also, take a look at the belt that goes around the power steering pump pulley-If the belt is loose, or otherwise in bad shape, It will make a squealing sound as it slips on the pulley. If the vehicle has a serpentine belt, or one belt that winds around all the accessory pullies and is loose, the serpentine belt tensioner may be failing. If none of these things are present, the problem most likely lies in the power steering pump itself, and it will need replacement. Good Luck!

85 crown vic has a/c 5.0 L trying to replace belt that drives a/c and smog pump how do you get slack to put the belt on ?

Inside the idler pulley mount you will note a square hole that is for using a socket breaker bar to move the tensioner. (I don't remember if the retangular hole is 3/8 or 1/2 inch but one of the two) Insert the breaker bar de-tension the belt and route it. You can use a ratchet but a breaker bar will not slip and is safer to use.

Thread 1008672 of this link has an excellent routing diagram for the serpentine belt:

The tensioner is item 8 of the above link.

you can get a A/C Delete kit for a Ford 4.6 liter. the 4.6 v-8 accessory drive system is all the same. You may also be able to run a line of string around the pullys, take it to your local auto parts store and they can match it up. I recomend the kit,

94 crown victoria serpentine belt issues...

It is possible that your tensioner pulley is seized and will have to be replaced as well. This happened to my 2001 F-150, the tensioner pulley seized and shredded the serpentine belt.

I need to replace the serpentine belt on a 1988 ford crown victoria and need the routing for the belt.

These diagrams are somewhere under your hook, but in any event MAP yours paying particular attention to v grooves up or down (Front of belt or back) and just map it count the pulleys and draw them on paper, then draw the snake through them...

You wil be amazed how long the belt is.
